• "Wrecked CD ROM drive-Beware"
    1.0 stars
    on by Fire1946

Pros: Fast and easy transfer of data

    Cons: Horrible tech support

Summary: I have used the USB stick to transfer data from one of my laptops (Gateway with XP Home) to my other laptop (HP Omnibook 6100 with XP Pro). After having inserting the USB stick on my HP and the transfer of data it changed my drives out of the blue: USB became D (instead of E or F) and the CD ROM drive D became an inaccessible DVD drive under E. System restore did not remedy it and San Disk "Tech support" on the Internet is a better joke and on the phone they make lousy excuses with even lamer comparisions and contends that the CD ROM broke (suddenly???) and I would have to contact the manufacturer of the CD ROm drive; thus deny any responsiblity whatsoever! Stay away from these guys!

    Updated
I had used this Flash Drive and was not too happy with it. At one time it screwed my USB ports up at my HP laptop. Tech support was the pitts. As the instructions are not too clear, I was of the opinion that one can transfer data from Outlook to another computer with this Flash Dive; one can only use the Flash Drive to back the data up; why one can not transfer these data to another computer is beyond me?!

Try and reinstall windows if you can. It's possible that windows configuration got screwed up and it changed the drive's letter around. Once windows is reinstalled it's possible that the drive may work again. Backup all your data and then reinstall as you don't want to loose it.

I'm not sure the problem is the Cruzer, but possibly with Win XP instead. I had essentially the same problem with a competing Flash drive, and the Cruzer solved it.

In my case, a second hard drive took the drive letter that was assigned to a competing brand of Flash drive, and a letter could not be assigned to the Flash drive, even after the hard drive was removed. A competent IT group caused the problem and was unable to fix it by means of OS settings.

All Flash drives of that type became unusable, so the problem was in the OS settings or the driver. They solved the problem by giving me a Cruzer drive.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post. My previous comment didn't seem to "take".

Fire1946 its sad that people have to be so critical and ugly...its comments like the previous few that make the world a harder place to be in.
I do agree however that probably you did something inadvertantly to change the drive letters as I've been there, done that myself, and know how to avoid it now. I love my flash stick things....the best way to move info from one place to another...stick with it !!!!

Unless the Cruzer Titanium shorted out your usb hub, and fried the hardware of your cd-drive (which did not seem to be the case), the fault in your scenario lies in the Windows OS. All of the drivers for this device are standard, Microsoft supplied drivers. Any unpleaseant configurations that resulted from the installation of this device relate to this MS provided software, and not the actual hardware.

Have you not heard of "Disk Management?"
