Stay away from it.

Pros: This definitely has all of the tools that you need. I've used several of their tools over the years. But it's the overhead from Iolo Tech which is the problem.

Cons: It's spyware for Iolo. It hogs memory and brings a computer to a standstill. Security software will block access to printers, scanners, GPS, and other items. It also seems to be distructive to external drives.

Review: It's a nice set of utilities that Iolo Tech has loaded down with a lot of overhead which more then counterbalances the benefits of the utilities. The security software in the Pro version is somethig that you want to stay away from at all costs. Either the utilities or the security software has corrupted other software on my hard drive. I've had several versions of System Mechanic and this one seems to be the worst. I left this software running the virus program one night and woke up in the morning to find an extenal backup drive unusable and my computer wouldn't reboot even in safe mode. There are lots of good system utility software. I suggest that you look elsewhere.

Worse than JUNK

Pros: I don't have one good thing to say about SM 7

Cons: Entire Program

Review: Had SM 4,5 & 6 All of them worked great. But 7 is so bad I cant believe they even put it out there. I upgraded with out The 30 day trial since I trusted them from previous versions. BIG mistake! Not only is the firewall a complete joke, but much of the rest of the program does not work right either and will screw with your computer so bad that a simple un-install will not suffice. I had to reformat and start from scratch. If you value your time and money don't buy or even try this program. I have read the other reviews and every thing negative is true to my experience. All I can figure about the few positive ones is "This is your brain on drugs".

Doesn't work well and support is terrible

Pros: Helps with defragging

Cons: Causes more headackes and customer care is poor

Review: I would not recommend this product. Ever since I installed it, it has erased documents and caused crashes with my Kapersky. I didn't install the firewall/antivirus as directed, but it will install it without you knowing if you put automatic updates on the program.

Customer care has not been helpful. It takes them a week/two weeks sometimes more to get help. They don't read the whole problem. They send you a premade suggestion that doesn't even address the problem because they didn't take the time to understand the problem.

a disaster

Pros: it didn't actually kill my computer, just mortally wound it

Cons: disabled my email, internet, and nearly killed the pc.

Review: an awful piece of software which came within a hair's width of killing my pc. avoid at all cost -- and don't believe the positive reviews, they're planted by the company. why would so many people hate this software, and two or three people randomly give it tens?

Beware of this one!

Pros: Not a one! This is as bad as it gets!

Cons: Misidentifies system files as malware, undo does not work properly, slows system.

Review: I was a long time user of System Mechanic, and recommended it often to friends, clients, etc. - that is, until version 7. I should note that I never did not use the firewall of virus protection and cannot comment on those components. Version 7 was the worst piece of non-beta software I have ever seen. It slowed down my systems on 3 different computers, using Windows XP Pro, to a crawl. It tripled boot times. It removed system files through the spyware/malware utility and when I used the "undo" feature to repair the files, it did not work as advertised, necessitating a manual repair and/or reinstall of all the affected files. Customer service was worthless and patronizing. I am now using Avanquest (formerly VCOM) System Suite 8 professional and I am extemely happy with it.

Biggest piece of PC software Diarrhea

Pros: Nothing at all - very terrible product

Cons: Biggest head ache when users you support install it.

Review: This program causes so many issues. It slows down the computer it is installed on. I can block communication and internet activity. Some web pages can no longer connect. You can not get to other computers on the network, like document servers. If corrupts the computer more than most viruses. Here is an article that can further describe how crappy this program is: http://www.forbes.com/2007/04/25/

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Waste of Money

Pros: theoretically has the right utilities

Cons: Incredibly buggy, poor support

Review: I had owned System Mechanic 5 and 6 and had been very pleased with both of them. They offer the system utilities I was wanting and were easy to use. So, upgrading to 7 seemed to be a no-brainer. Big Mistake! System Mechanic 7 is incredibly buggy. They release updates often and some make the software better and some make it worse. The software (when it will run) freezes up, gives false warnings, anti-virus randomly shuts down, and other various bugs. They released this software in a beta stage. It should never have been commercially released.

User Rating: 1/10

Completely blown away!

Pros: Sleek looking software and rated fairly high by some geeks who reviewed the product.

Cons: No warning that you MUST remove the cd after the initial install or it will start during boot and tell you that your operating system (OS) is corrupt. Don't believe it; remove the cd and then reboot.

Review: Like others have experienced, my one week old Vista PC became useless immediately after System Mechanic 7 was installed. I contacted tech support online and I did receive a response to my initial question of "why is the software telling me that my OS is corrupt and it continues to boot to the cd-rom each and every time it is started"? Tech support responded with "remove the cd from the cd-rom because the software is designed to read/start from the cd-rom (in the event the computers OS becomes contaminated)". It is designed to be able to boot from the cd-rom even though the cd-rom is not in the first boot position to be recognized? I responded to tech support with a follow-up email: "Why did System Mechanic manual NOT warn the software buyer/installer to remove the cd BEFORE rebooting their computer?" I went on to say, "isn't this software designed to find a corrupt system and repair it!? I believe it is, so why did it tell me I needed to "Repair" the system because of a corrupt OS?" Funny thing is my NEW PC was working perfectly just prior to the SM 7 install. I have not heard back from tech support and it has been over a week now. It's obvious they will not respond to a users problems if it appears that their product was to blame for the erroneous OS failure findings. Shame on them for leaving all of us with a failed OS and for not offering a refund for the return of their product. That would be the least they could do for those of us who had to spend hours and hours on reinstalling Windows because of THEIR software. Of course, we could say it is actually our fault because we wouldn't of had this problem if we had not purchased and installed their software. Again, shame on them for leaving us on our own and not pitching in to help. This will only happen once to this buyer, I promise.
Since the software is designed to detect a corrupt OS, but in fact finds that a perfectly functioning OS is corrupt, what would it detect if the OS 'was' indeed corrupt?

Fails on Vista Ultimate

Pros: Long history of good products -- this is one so sad

Cons: Fails to run on Vista Ultimate

Review: I have had problems with the software from the day of release. It installs but fails to run. I keep checking for updates but as of 5/27/2007 it still does not work on my machine. This is a shame since I am long time user of iolo products since they were not as much of a drain on resources as other products. Not sure the company is supporting the product any more either since they have shutdown the user to user boards to avoid us discussing the problems.

blue screen of death on uninstall....

Pros: It has a nice GUI and I did like the emal updates on my system status.

Cons: fooling with the registry makes me nervous

Review: I din't like seeing the blue screen of death when I tried to uninstall it.
The fact that it makes registry changes also is unsettling. I didn't see the protection I wanted from it. I am going back to Zone Alarm.

WARNING, WARNING firewall and antivirus conflict with Windows XP WMI files

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: The firewall may destroy your Windows XP WMI files requiring a XP restore installation, The antivirus program is a pig for resources. The rest of the system is incapable of orderly shutdown

Review: Warning, Warning. This program is still in development. It is not ready for use, unless you like spending your weekend doing a system recovery. It destroyed my XP WMI files so that the the network resources were disconnected and recoverable only by a repair install of XP. The AntiVirus module hogs resources and slows your system. You can't get an orderly shutdown of the system checking program. It does more harm than most malware and viruses. This product deserves a negative number

8 Year devoted User

Pros: Set it and forget it total care settings. Manual Startup folder editor. Works on Vista.

Cons: Slow on Deep analyzing. Nothing else that I can think of

Review: I have been using System Mechanic for several years and I have had nothing but great experiences. Just to let you know that is if I have been using a progrma for years and I version comes out that really sucks I will drop that program in a heartbeat. I do not know why others have had bad exepriences with this program but I have had none. I am now running on my new machine is Intel Duo 2.44ghz pro. 2GB DDR2 ram. 128 ATI Graphics card. Windows Vista Home Premium. I have had no problems. I used it on my other machines that are running XP pro, XP MCE, and Vista Home Premium Laptop and none of them have had any problems running SMP 7. My XP pro is 7 years old and it doesn't have any problems. What is the deal guys? Do you justnot know how to do a clean install. HINT disable firewalls, antivirus, and antispyware. If you do that then you might have a great running program. The reason that it doesn't run right is probally you. You can always reenable them after you install SMP 7.

Couldn't be happier

Pros: Great selection of tools, all included in one package

Cons: a little complicated to use fully, but once you get the hang of it

Review: I was fairly shocked to see that so many people had problems. I have had it installed on my PC (Custom Built, AMD 64 processor, mostly used for gaming, XP Pro) for over a month and have encountered no problems in use that couldn't be overcome with a little common sense and computer know how. I found its exhaustive list of utilities to be awesome, it sure beat using 3 seperate programs to do the same jobs. I had actually not been using an anti virus or firewall for almost a year before I bought this, and I've found it was an excellent decision. I could not have asked for a more useful program and would highly suggest it if you have any idea how to handle your computer.

It's like getting a brand new machine!

Pros: The Startup process is so much faster!

Cons: Defraging the hard drive can take a long time.

Review: My machine is so much faster and smoother it's amazing. Everythings loads and unloads so much quicker!

Excellent Utility Product

Pros: Easy to use interface, Highly Customizable Firewall, Very effective Anti Virus component,

Cons: Slightly confusing licensing

Review: When i first purchased and downloaded the product i was having some trouble with the license information, but it turns out I was just mistaking an 'o' for a zero. Once I got that figured out it went in without a problem and has been running great ever since. It cleaned out all sorts of parasites that were on my machine and it is running like a champ!!

User Rating: 9/10

Ran just fine for me

Pros: Interface is not hard to understand

Cons: Needs and Internet connection in order to install

Review: Well, in order to install you need to have an Internet connection. You can scream at iolo for that but its hackers you should really be screaming at. If it were not for them such 'drastic' security measures would not be necessary.

I like the Interface and the way the tools are layed out. The same flexibility in see what is removed before a removal takes place is available as well as is the same control over what tools are run.

On the complaints I have seen, you need to make sure that you dont have overkill on your system. I had 2 antispywares a firewall that I forgot about and IE7 popup blocker which caused me initial heartache when installing System Mechanic Professional. Stands to reason though since too many apps trying to do the same thing will ultimately conflict. After uninstalling those and reinstalling mechanic, it worked great. I plan on switching to system mechanic than having ubteen apps to do it all. Since the rating system gives me crap about selecting a 10, I select a 9.
Updated
I liked this so much after purchasing that I bought a copy for both my kids Vista computers and my moms XP computer. There have been no issues. There's a couple of features missing on Vista but from what I have read from other software creators it is because Micro$oft and allowing low level disk access. Stupid!

Other than that, no issues with system mechanic 7 Professional.

Great Utility, Problimatic Firewall.

Pros: The System Mechanic part of pro can't be beat.

Cons: The firewall is so problimatic you should skip it and use Zone Alarm

Review: I?ve been using SM since version 5 and like it better than Nortons System Works. It does everything Nortons did and more. When my Nortons Internet Security subscription lapsed it was an easy choice to upgrade to SM Pro and pick up Firewall and Antivrius. The 3 computer liscence helped. For 39.00 I could get the same coverage an upgrade vs 180.00 for the same thing from Symantec.

The System Mechanic is hit and miss. On a Toshiba Laptop it?s buggy and prone to lock the system. On a Dell Desktop and A Desktop that I made myself it works flawlessly. The range of tools is impressive and allows me to take care of problems that System Works couldn?t.

Firewall on the Toshiba has been problematic. I can?t use Activsync, I can?t play games with my son over the home network. I have to either uninstall the firewall (for syncing) or disable firewall for the network enabled games. We have not yet tested Firewall on the Dell when it comes to syncing. My daughter reports that she can?t use Yahoo Messenger. It also seems to be blocking access to our network printer. Emails to fix the syncing problems, the Printer Issue, and other issues that have come up over the past several weeks have been answered exactly once with a generic ?look at our website? answer that pointed to an article that I had already looked up and tried.

Antivirus I can?t say much about. We don?t tend to do the kind of surfing that gets a lot of viruses and our email is filtered by our ISP. It just seems to mind it?s own business without taking up a lot of system overhead like Norton Antivrius did.

When I purchased my Toshiba Laptop SM 7 Pro was the first program I installed. It immediately found a bunch of spyware either installed from the factory, or picked up while updating the computer via a hotels internet. The installation did not detect the Windows Firewall that was enabled and some of my problems with Firewall could come from the conflicts that happned before I figured it out and turned off Firewall.

Zone Alarm and Internet Security also seem to have a simpler interface. Popups while the programs are in training refer to specific applications trying to run and you answer a simple question. SM 7 Pro does the same thing, but adds an extra step. Once you have given the OK for a program it still may block access from a specific port, channel, or whatnot. You can look at the details and allow the blocked access by a program you already Okayed. Frustrating. Also you don?t have a choice. You either see all blocked access pop ups, or you see none of them. If you say ?no? to a program. You will see blocked access pop ups for that program from that point on. If you turn if off, you won?t see the pop up questions for new programs. If you don?t answer the pop up SM uses a default answer after a certain amount of time has happed. Don?t walk away and get a cup of coffee. You may do something you don?t like, that you didn?t know about.

I?m convinced that the Toshiba issue with the Utilities stems from a buggy system right from the factory and a reformat will solve the problems. The other two systems seem to work well with the Utilities portion. I think Iolo has some work to do with Firwall. For now my solution is going to be to run System Mechanic Pro without the Firewall and run Zone Alarm instead. The combo and price are hard to beat. In a year when my subscription comes due if they haven?t fixed the lack of email support problem I?ll probably move on.

One last comment. I?ve done 4 or 5 uninstalls and reinstalls on the Toshiba. Plus set it up on the other two computers. It?s been activated with the same code 6 or 7 times. No problems with activation so far. If I ever have a problem with activation I?ll drop the product. I have no patience for online activation that doesn?t work for my paid software. This is one reason I dropped Symantec. I had a problem with my online activation being rejected. They would not fix it told me to send them my software for their ?investigation? and I was out the money. Worse the activated installs that I did have would forget their activations, request new ones and then have that rejected. Internet Security has an excellent firewall, First Rate Email support and increasingly buggy problematic software with crappy corporate policies that get in the way of a good product. If they would give me a code that activated the software without an online check (so it won?t get rejected) and give me a subscription for the same price as Iolo, I?d go back to Internet Security. I?d still keep System Mechanic. That part of Iolo?s products just shines.

Overall Rating.
System Mechanic 9 (You don't need the email support. It just works).
Firwall. 1 Since it doesn't work and email support doesn't work, it's really not useable.
Antivirus. 6 It's plugging along and until I actually get a virus I can't tell how well it's doing its job.

poor service

Pros: some elements work great

Cons: no response from tech support

Review: I've had three seperate problems with the program (Errors or hang ups etc) sent e mail requests to Iolo never got any response except for the automatic response that someone will get back to me within 12 hours. Been two weeks now without a response.

Does not work as advertised

Pros: Sorry I cannot think of any

Cons: Does not do what it claims it will do.

Review: I had version 6 and they offer version 7 for a good price. Does not detect firewalls or antivirus software on machine. In addition, corrupted Norton Ghost 10 and their System Guard Alerter does not work. A major step back. Finally, when it finds a security flaw it does not tell you what it is like in version 6. You have no idea what it consides a security flaw. Also, it tell you that you have disk problems, but when you use other tools to valid it. There are not problems. This tools just does not do what is claims to do. Have not tried to get a refund yet, but will.

Two words: BUY IT!

Pros: Best bang for your buck. Works great with XP and Vista. Solves so many problems and makes your 'puter hum like a Ferrari.

Cons: A little hard to digest main screen at first.

Review: I've been using this product since version 4 and have always been satisfied. I just upgraded to v7 and WOW, what an improvement (as if it needed it). I don't know why some people rate this product poorly, but all I can think is that they don't read the instructions or pay attention to the wording as they use it. If you take a little time and actually read the information that's readily available, it is a breeze to work with SM, and it will never do you wrong. One piece of strong advice: do NOT install this product in conjunction with other security software (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc). Running more than one of these types of products at the same time is never a good idea, and pretty much always ends up resulting in lockups.

Wretched software and non-existant customer service

Pros: Huge range of possibilities...when it works

Cons: System hangs constantly; doesn't support email services

Review: Bought this product in order to take advantage of wide range of utilities, anti-virus and firewall. Unfortunately, the software constantly hangs up requiring a log-off or reboot. It's most glaring problem is it doesn't support email services requiring SMTP port 587.
But to add to it's problems...Iolo has the worst customer service/technical support in the business. it takes days to get a reply. That reply is some random, non-related response that refers to a pathetically maintained solution database. Attempts to contact technical support directly result in a firewall of voice menu options...none of which actually connect to a person who can help. It is a wasteful shame. Someone spent a lot of time putting a lot of good programming together...but others dropped the ball on making usable and providing support. I have had much better support from Microsoft itself. Looks like Iolo will be joining Ford in bankruptcy court.
Updated
My needs were a non-navigation, DVD/multimedia, bluetooth, XM radio ready headunit. I looked at all the major brands first, including the Alpine IVA-W200,Panasonic CQ-VD6503U and the Kenwood DDX6019. The Dual simply provided similar features for less...and in some cases better quality.
The video definitely surpasses the Alpine and was comparable to the Kenwood and Panasonic.
The Bluetooth features of the Dual are far better. Setup with my Sony-Ericsson K750i was a breeze. All I do is get in my car with my phone in my pocket and the HU detects and connects to the phone in about 10 seconds. The HU doesn't store the phone book, one drawback, but does store the last dialed, received and missed calls. Making a call is easy on the keypad dislpayed on the screen. Call quality is mono, but clear and you can adjust the gain for the Bluetooth individually (as with as all the other input options). Additionally, the Bluetooth is built in...no need to buy yet another add-on like with the other brands.
The XM ready feature only requires the tuner box...so no adpater is needed. Interface with the program listing is highly customizable.
It comes with a SD card reader as well, and although the spec sheet says it is compatible with up to a 2GB card, I have been using a SanDisk 4GB card with no problems. Make sure you copy your songs on the card in recognizable folders though...otherwise you could be looking forever for the music you want to listen to.
The unit comes with a single sweet remote attachment that allows you to connect to your iPod, an AV input (suach as for a game system) and a 3.5mm jack.
Lastly, the system has additional inputs for a rear camera and a back seat entertainment system which I might add later.
My only complaint so far has been that the unit can be a bit bright, even with the adjustment turned all the way down. But you can simply blank the screen with the standby button without affecting audio playback.
All in all, I am quite happy with this unit and would recommend it.

Completely destroyed my brand new laptop computer!

Pros: There are no pros

Cons: It deletes the Windows boot files so windows cannot run

Review: This is the most destructive software I have ever seen. The box says the product is Vista compatible and it really isn't at all. I made the mistake of installing it on my new laptop, and it wiped out my Windows boot files the first time I ran it. I had to order recovery discs from the computer manufacturer to fix what IOLO broke. And to top it off, IOLO has no customer service to speak of. They refuse to respond to emails or phone calls. This is MALWARE pure and simple. I wish I could get my money back - but most of all, I want my new computer back!

No help for installation problems

Pros: Don't know - can't use it

Cons: It won't install-no help from tech support

Review: After reading the rest of the review, I have decided that my problem may be a blessing in disguise. I have had System Mechanic for a long time and have been pleased and so when they offered me the upgrade for $30.00, I took it. I was so confident in them that I did not even order the CD, which is something I always order. Saved $10.00 that way. Anyway, I have been trying to install it off and on for weeks and I wrote to the "help" at Iolo and got a canned response with a list of articles to read. I was very specific about the error messages I was getting, so I expected a definitive answer, not suggestions for reading enhancement. Anyway, no help, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Yes, I am out the $30.00, but not the money for the CD and my computer did not get screwed up by the program. I think I will heed the advice of the other reviewers and just pretend I never heard of it. I know it is not usual to rate a product a "1", but if you cannot even get it loaded onto the computer - what else does it deserve?

RUN don't walk away from this program

Pros: A good job cleaning the registry

Cons: No tech support

Review: In 18 years of working with compters I think this is the worse program I'm ever bought. I keep getting getting popups about ActiveCare. I've disabled everything and it still comes up. I've contacted tech support twice and only gotten canned responces. When I've called them I've only gotten push botten responces. What a joke! Don't waste your money here.

Everything you need, and more!

Pros: Exhaustive Suite of powerful computer tools

Cons: Lengthy Internet downloads before installation

Review: Excellent interface and integrated suite of tools that will keep your computer humming along at warp speed. One I turn over complete control of my computer to the PC Total Care option of iolo technologies System Mechanic 7 Professional, I received a noticeably faster and healthier computer. (You can also individually pick and choose any of the recommendation that System Mechanic makes, but after the first few times I used the product, I begin to trust that good recommendations were being made.)

I think the antivirus real-time functions are superb and, in my opinion, much faster than my Norton Antivirus that I replaced. The firewall works better than its Norton counterpart as well. No complaints and extremely integrated.

The only thing I can nit-pick about is when you initially install the product. Even though I had the CD, the program needed to access and download almost 30 MB of updates from iolo's website, before it would start the installation. Additionally, I found the long user IDs, serial numbers and Anti-Virus definitions keys to be long and cumbersome. (There were two instances where I confused a "0" (zero) for a capital O. The long security numbers had to be reentered before the installation could continue. With a little perseverance and luck I was rewarded with an excellent tool that not only keeps my computer safe and healthy, but has greatly improved my hard disk function and increased my Internet connection efficiency by a noticeable degree. I also enjoy the three computer license that came with System Mechanic. I can keep my computer as well as my wife and Daughter's all purring along at warp speed as we travel down the information highway.

I recommend this product to anyone currently using Windows XP. I understand this product also works with Vista as well.

IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BUYING SM7 DO NOT !!!! READ NOW URGENT!!!!

Pros: 1 PRO= THE INCINERATOR YOU CAN MAKE YOUR COMPUTER DISAPEAR!

Cons: ANTIVIRUS & FIREWALL BASICLY THE WHOLE PROGRAM!

Review: I would have to say this is the worst system suite I have ever used! I had sm6 and was working fine. I should have went by the old saying if it aint broke dont fix it...So true! Well I closed all my programs and went for it. After the restart all hell broke loose. Programs were not working the firewall was blocking everything my programs did not like it one bit! they revolted! One instance was with my network magic. It is by the way the best networking program out there I sware by it! Well sm7 decided to shag some dll files and some exe files. I had went into the settings for the firewall and shut it down and went back to windows firewall then restarted. To my amazement this did not work. The main screen for sm7 said that I need to install the firewall,um it was installed! now the program is working against itself! I had to go to my process list and end the running program. after that i went to turn on the windows firewalland got an error that sm7 is still running. so i went to uninstall it and would not let me uninstall it because the sm7 was still running even after i had shut down in the ctrl+Alt+Del and every where else. After a handfull of tries it finally uninstalled Now i figured that i could turn on wind fire wall and all was well.NOT!!!!!!It came down to having to manualy trackdown all the files and delete them. This worked! Well thought it was fixed but after deleting the left over program files my IE7 webshots etc... would not work had to uninstall and reinstall my programs sm7 shaged. The worst thing is that they DO NOT GIVE REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON! BUYER BEWARE! RUN AWAY SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!

Let the buyer beware

Pros: Basic utilities work pretty well

Cons: virus and firewall integration coupled with extremely poor customer service make this a losing investment

Review: You have to know that this segment of the software field is both complex and competitive. Iolo has had many false starts with integrating tools (Panda and Kaspersy) but falls on its sword with its own integrated virus and firewall tools. If its technical support were better it might help compensate for the jumping the gun mentality its management team has shown in the past. You cannot get to any senior management personnel if you would like to make suggestions or complaints. It is apparent that this is a management team in desperate need of an overhaul. BTW you will find that the integration problems with the newest SM7 Pro will possibly cost you many hours of problem solving from complicated firewall settings to poor email antivirus integration and the de-install will leave many legacy files in the registry to further plague the use of this product. 16 updates have been issued in less than 2 months and several require de-installing the former version to re-install the update. As I said, if there were better tech support available this might not be so bad. But then again, if the tech support were better you would probably find a competent management team that would know how to thoroughly develop and test products BEFORE their release. Let the buyer beware.

Disables liscense after repeated requests for liscense information

Pros: None. Doesn't Work

Cons: Doesn't work.

Review: Downloaded and installed. Everytime I opened the program, it asked for my license information. After this went on for a while, my license was locked and I was unable to use the program. I was sent a link to the fix, which corrected the program from repeatedly asking for my license, but my license is still disabled. Repeated emails to constomer support has only generated automated responses. Unable to find a customer support number.
Updated
Received an email informing me that my license was reset. Included a link to a new update. I have access to the program again.

Bad software getting worst

Pros: Cheaper then most. 3 licenses per purchase, so you can run it on 3 machines

Cons: Causes more problems than it fixes. Doesn't know who they are selling the product to.

Review: I owned System Mechanic 6 before I updated to System Mechanic 7. It wasn't too good so I wasn't expecting much. I finally turned off any automatic settings since it deletes all of my cookies and just never helped. I used it to find some problems and loved Kaspersky firewall and Anti-Virus but to get any value out of System Mechanic you have to be an expert and if you are an expert you don't really need a product like this. I "upgraded" to 7 because it has virus protection and allowed you to put it on up to 3 computers. I have 3 computers; mine, my son's and my daughters. I didn't know that they pulled Kaspersky Anti-Virus which was great and put in some piece of junk. It hangs during the install trying to install a plug-in for email. I let it run overnight and it never finished. It doesn't find virus software that Kaspersky did. The Defrag is worst than what comes with Windows XP and since I really do want to defrag my drives I ended up buy O&O Defrag which is expensive, but works well really improving my computer for games like Flight Simulator X (FSX)

If you don't know what you are doing this software can really mess up your computer if you do know what you are doing it will not help you. It allowed a program to mimic Quicktime's update and run at startup. When I had it look at startup programs instead of showing me the programs so I could delete it the program just told me everything was fine. I spend more time fixing problems on my kids computer than I would if I just let them run with no protection untill it blew up and reinstalled XP every couple of weeks.

Stay Away! This company does not deserve your business!

Pros: Non Zip. It simply won't work!

Cons: Non-existant techincal and customer support. Is anyone home?

Review: I took the bait. After purchasing System Mechanic 6 I received a 'special offer' to upgrade to Version 7. BIG MISTAKE. After five weeks I have been unable to get this working on my PC. Repeated emails to Technical Support and Customer Service have been ignored. This is absolutely DIPLORABLE. This company does not deserve your business. I'm disputing this charge on my credit card and walking away.

It works OK

Pros: It did as it said

Cons: No Tech Support

Review: Had a problem with it loading. Filled out a trouble report on their Web site, got a Form response, tried what it said, still had problems
wrote 3 more times with no response back, got a CASE #. After removing & and installing it locked me out. Can't get anyone to unlock it so
I wasted $40

A Piece of Trash

Pros: Not one good thing

Cons: slowed my system down and eventually the firewall crashed

Review: In my opinion this is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used. I used system mechanic 6.0 and was reasonably pleased with it. When I installed 7.0 I noticed that my system almost immediately slowed down. After a couple of days the firewall crashed and I could not get it to work. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled and again the next day the firewall crashed. I have since removed the product and will not reinstall it. On top of that when sending any emails or asking for customer support they immediately send you back a canned answer telling you how to activate the license. I made the mistake of paying for it since i was a system Mechanic 6 user. Of course there is no way to get my money back. I feel that this product should never be recommended for anything.

Gives bad name to lemon

Pros: Eventually it runs

Cons: Slows down system. Slows down internet access.Recognizes legit apps as viruses.

Review: I bought this directly from Iolo based on reviews of SM6.

It did not install correctly on first few attempts. After it did, it downloaded updates and promptly crashed. It will not allow reinstallation from the disk if it was updated. So off we go - uninstall, install and update. Every installation counts toward the limit of three.

But there is more: Once it runs it slows down computer, it slows down internet, it recognizes Java updates as viruses (thanks Iolo), it requires separate installation if you have second user on the same computer and its firewall comes with disabled internet security as default.

Please note Iolo does not offer refunds if you buy from them directly.
Updated
I gave up and uninstalled this garbage through control panel add/remove program.
Dvpapi.exe and Authentium did not uninstall. Some of it can be removed via registry but not all. I installed new security suite by another maker but Windows now recognizes more than one firewall and antivirus.

SAY NO TO IOLO 7.0

Pros: pretty box

Cons: tech support, customer service, and program

Review: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT:

IOLO needs to hire A NEW MECHANIC and should pull the plug on this software immediately.

As a former IOLO customer, I have lost all confidence and respect for this company and its product. This program has caused all kinds of problems on my system. I could not send or receive emails (and the tech tells me to send him an email of the problem), and the system regristry did all sorts of strange things on a brand new clean install of XP.

Their customer service is lousy and my several messages to their infamous extension 107 have gone unanswered. My emails to thier key people have gone unanswered and now I am spending time trying to warn others about this program. A big waste of time and money!

My advice: TRY THIS PRODUCT before you spend your money. I made the mistake of showing my loyality by upgrading from a previous version and now am out 40 bucks and have completely reformated my system to remove this program and clean my system from its affect.

If you are like me and are stuck with this lemon atleast we have a pretty box to remind us who NOT to buy from in the future.

Destructive and Expensive.

Pros: flashy interface, same tools from previous SMs

Cons: ..exact same tools from previous SMs. My computer cant reboot normally now.. it wont start without internet. Its very slow, takes up about 25% of my cpu. and it is not even worth half of its price.

Review: please, stay with kaspersky and tone the interface down so i may figure out how to do one thing without having to look through tons of buttons.

Does NOT work as advertised

Pros: The only thing I can think of is that it is packed in a nice box

Cons: You name it, this is an abysmal product

Review: For those whom rated this product highly, you may wish to rerun any functions performed by this program. It will inevitably catch things it missed before even in intensive scan mode. Other products are much, much, much better. Also this program totally destroyed my system requiring a complete OS reinstall. Customer support is worthless won't return emails. I am really unhappy with this product. Recommend System Mechanic 7 Professional to someone you really dislike. Customer support is worthless won't return emails. Really unhappy. All in one Solution

Pros: Great Product for the basic user

Cons: nothing I experienced

Review: Nothing bad to say about the product. Although opinions might differ because of computer settings and configuration. I had no problems and my computer is running as if it came out of a box. Its faster and more responsive now. Thank you iolo

Not as advertised, try before you use

Pros: cleans up misc items similar to old program

Cons: will not work off-line, but program is always on.

Review: Only installs on one computer, they advertise 3, locks you out if you uninstall and reinstall. Will not start without internet connection. Changes your computer date, then will not start due to date error.
The one button clean up that worked so well in Sys Mech 5.0 has gotten lost in the dazzling new display.

Just When You Think It Couldn't Get Any Worst

Pros: Computer runs faster

Cons: Anti virus and firewall

Review: I wrote a previous review, now it seems to be getting worst. Sys Mech downloaded and installed an update, now the firewall won't work. Worst yet, there is no way I can find to turn it off, and it will not allow Windows to shut down normally. Before that I had to get a third party anti virus program to replace System Mechanics because the scanner blocked my sending and recieving emails. I wasn't too fond of the firewall because when it blocked programs, you cannot find out what programs they are, maybe they were harmless, I will never know. Tech support, well this is my fourth email to them, the previous three they have never answered. I just upgrade to Sys Mech Pro 7, and about a month later, it says my Firewall Subscription is running out, the next day I started getting error messages. Overall the computer runs fine, but it's a very steep price considering two key programs are junk. I am wondering when I get another program update what will stop working next. Chow

Keeps Getting Worse...

Pros: Robust Set of Maintenance/Optimization Tools

Cons: Firewall blocks IM client and has confusing interface

Review: I've been using System Mechanic since version 4 and the software has been declining since version 5. It seems that the more features they add to it, the more issues/problems occur. The positives include the usual robust set of maintenance/optimization tools and easy set up of the AntiVirus component. Cons include poor firewall interface, IM application blocking (couldn't get IM access via Trillian despite help from tech support), disjointed utility vs. scan function (Startup Manager utility allows you to exclude certain apps determined by the program to be "un-necessary/dangerous" from detection but the excluded apps are detected as problems by the System Scan function.), false positives in Spython app, etc., etc. Bottom line: Get TuneUp Utilities 2007 and your favorite internet security application. You'll be much happier.

Great and comprehensive tool for fixing Windows problems

Pros: Easy to use, Comprehensive, does its job.

Cons: Doesn't detect any 3rd party antivirus software

Review: There are certain improvements over the previous SM, The interface redesigned, problems detected while program loading, it seems to me that thats all I need to maintain Windows.
Give it a try, it's a worthy opponent for Symantec System Works (although I'm running Kaspersky as my protector!).

Interface (out of 5): ****
Speed: ****
Detecting and fixing: ****

Buyer beware

Pros: May be as good as they claim. Very cheap at Buy.com.

Cons: I don't see the develper's claims verified on CNet.

Review: The developer site says that CNet lists this app as a "best buy" with lots of glitz about CNet's high rating. I do not see that anywhere on CNet.

Disgrace improvements needed BADLY

Pros: they kept a few features from System Mechanic 6 Professional

Cons: got rid of there one button does all function so u must do check up by check up

Review: they "microsoft"ed it made it.'Cute' graphics and killed the substance. My first installation the anti-virus and firewall don't work, then after many restarts. The firewall blocks ALL my programs except windows explorer and iolo programs. I try to create the program policy that it doesnt block my trusted programs with no success had to turn off the firewall. Dear iolo whats the point of that? Anyway I was an early adopter thus far its version 1.0.3 hopefully an update is coming soon so its back to Systemworks for me.
Updated
just for a follow up running windowns xp professional this has to be the worst suite ever created it constantly blocks my trading programs fo during market hours I have no protection then at times its doesnt boot up at all so you have to keep reinstalling it but you can never get rid of it completely because there are certain files that are always running way after you uninstall so the problems reoccur stay away please do yourself the favor because trust me in novemember when the new suites come out I wont be buying

Disappointing

Pros: Comprehensive, improved interface over V6

Cons: No recognition of Kaspersky products

Review: I downloaded the trial version, but was disappointed that big red letters point out that I have no Firewall or Virus checker installed, when I have a new installation of Kaspersky Internet with which I am extremely happy, having been disappointed with Norton 2006 and Zone Alarm. Not sure this product is worth buying, at least for now.
