Pros I do love the way you can clean the Dyson out. It comes apart so easy and goes back just the same. I love that you can wash it with water, set the parts by the heater for the night and it's ready in the morning.
Cons Too many to list with 250 characters...see summary.
Summary 1 - The front sits so low to the ground with no way to adjust it I have to lift the whole thing up to pick up a piece of dirt that isn't flat on the ground. My 9 month old cereal, HA! This thing can't do that, unless the object is flat on the ground it won't pick it up. It looks like it did, until you pull the vacuum back and it's still there. Yes the hose will pick it up but I don't want to get he hose out every two feet to pick up a crumb. Plus you can't bend the hose straight down or it bends and stops sucking.
2 - My upstairs is only 1080sqft, I have to unplug and plug back in the Dyson 3 times through out my house due to its extremely short cord. I mean seriously...that's nuts. My old vacuum could do the whole upstairs just fine. It's it so frustrating to be cleaning the living room and turn to go in to the kitchen and it unplugs.
3 - I was a little conserned when I first got this vacuum. I would vacuum the bedrooms which are carpeted and there wouldn't be any lines on the floor. I couldn't figure it out, it didn't look like it was sucking up anything on the carpet and yet the bin was all of the sudden full of debris. The floor looked clean but there wasn't any vacuum lines. Eventually the carpet started to look worn and flat, even being only 1 1/2 years old with not a huge amount of traffic, I decided to shampoo the carpet and they looked a lot better. After a few weeks they looked worn and flat again. I brought my old, heavy vacuum up and it did the trick. The rollers were much stronger and the suction was enough to fluff the carpet back up. After thinking about it, I can roll the dyson over the bathroom rug and it doesn't pull it up, my old vacuum would eat it. So now, I use the Dyson only on my hard floors and the other on the carpets. Not what I had planned when get the great and powerful Dyson.
4 - Using the hose. I love the "lightweight" feature the Dyson offers but it's so light that when you go to use the hose the whole machine falls over. I started noticing even on the commercial the lady walks the hose up a flight of stairs, because it is extremely long, and the vacuum stays at the bottom upright, but after having it here I see it because she has it pushed up to the bottom step for support. OK, that will work, but trying to clean a cobweb from the ceiling in the middle of a room and boom! The whole thing falls over. I have a crawler who LOVES the vacuum and is always under my feet when I am cleaning, I can't have something that falls over so easily.
Pros Incredible cleaning power, easy to use tools and attachments, and emptying the waste is easier than any vacuum I have ever used.
Cons It is different than most traditional vacuums, it will take a little getting used to.
Summary I have had this vacuum for 4 months now. The lack of a button to take it from the upright to the vacuum position is better than having a button to push. You simply pull down and you are ready to go. With this vacuum I can go from hardwood to carpet with no problem as the vacuum automatically adjusts the brush position. I bought this vacuum because I have a black lab and her hair gets everywhere. If you deal with pet hair from cats or dogs you can't go wrong with this vacuum.
