Pros Great products with great features IF they lasted. Unfortunately, they crap out quickly.
Cons Expect the power supply to die very soon. Replacing it (with an identical unit with the same problem) will cost you over $200.00. My VCR lasted 13 months but I found complaints online from people whose machines burned out in as little as three months. As
Summary This VCR does exactly what Samsung says it will - play VHS tapes from anywhere in the world. The picture and audio quality are very good, regardless of the source tape type (NTSC, PAL, or SECAM - I output to an NTSC TV). So far, I have not found any compromises in buying this universal VCR vs. NTSC-only, apart from having to pay for the universal features.
Pros Great NTSC/PAL/SECAM converter! Very easy to convert between different modes.
Cons Will likely die on you. Mine died after 7 yrs, then again after 2 more yrs. The 2nd time I repaired it myself with $ 2 worth of parts. Replaced 5 electrolytic capacitors C31-C35. Power supply also causes interference to the tuner and nearby TV's.
Summary Would be OK if it would actually last. Great features - poor quality. For distant TV DXing, has a good worldwide tuner, but weak signal recordings will be very jumpy. Best to pipe video to another device for recording instead.
Pros The VCR playsback and records all the PAL formats. It's has been a good tool for the NBC News Archives department. We can make screening tapes for our clients from all over the world.
Cons We have already gone through 2 machines. The machines stop working after a while. They begin by turning off out of no where and until they don't turn on anymore.
Summary If you can find another machine and let me know when you do because I have been looking for one to replace the one we had. If you can find a DVD player that will work just like this let me know because we would love to have that instead. If you decide to get this one try and start hunting for spare power supply parts because that is what goes when the machine stops working.

Pros Good quality.
Cons None, it just works fine.
Summary I found this universal VCR very good, it do the job very well, it converts PAL/NTSC tapes without error. I have it for 3 years now absolutly no problems, just regular maintennce (i.e. cleaning video heads).
