"Read This Before You Buy Another Graphics Controller!"

by USAF Vet 1 on May 16, 2007

Pros: Best performance for price; HD Video; Ease of installation.

    Cons: None. Zip. Zero.

Summary: The ATI Radeon X1300 Pro PCI Express 256 MB graphics controller has been getting some bad reviews on this site, and the rationale escapes me. If you visit www.circuitcity.com you'll see dozens of the higest ratings and lots of positive feedback. I bought the X1300 Pro for only $62.00, red-tagged for clearance at our base exchange. After a simple installation I now have Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey, NFS Carbon and Halo all running smoothly at maximum settings. On top of that, I'm watching HD video in 1080p. What else could anyone want, regardless of the low price? I was considering a purchase of the NVidia 7600GT if the X1300 had bombed, but thank God that didn't happen. That NVidia card costs 3x or 4x more than the X1300. If you pay the current circuit city price for the X1300 (109.00 as of this review) then you have a great deal there. I'm sure there are some professionals in the audience who have specific needs for a "top of the line" video adapter costing $300.00, but if you are a gamer and video enthusiast like me, which I imagine most who read these types of reviews are, then this is for you. So stop reading this, just go out and get one! My specs: HP Pavilion Media Center, Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HD, ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, Windows Vista Home Premium.

Are you still running your OEM power supply? How many watts? I purchased the ATI Radeon X1300 Pro at the same time as a new HP m7760n Media Center PC, but chickened out @ installation because the OEM power supply was only 300W and the X1300 Pro recommendation was 350W minimum. So, the ATI sits "NEW" in box, for the time being.
