"CNET is Right this Time"
Pros: second room, speed, great guide, Great HD
Cons: Somewhat flakey, occasional audio dropouts
Summary: Listen to CNET, not the peanut gallery here. I had TiVo from the bloody beginning and DirecTV's version for years. This DVR makes TiVo look like a joke. Especially if you have suffered all the indignities of TiVo, this is a get out of jail free card. The review is right on in almost every aspect. People rave about the TiVo remote. This one is more complicated, but it's 10x better. Took my girlfriend some time to get up to speed, but it is well worth it.
Also, if you consider velocity, it's a hands down winner. We got 0 upgrades from TiVo during the 5 year DirecTV stint. Dish has consistently improved their offering, and left the door open to seriously blowing this thing away. If they enable the networking, and allow the attachment of a drive array, this would be a perfect setup.

after 11 months my 622 is cracking up. the picture shrinks and changes format each time you change the channel but only on TV1. DISH keeps putting me off but eventually admitted a softtware problem with the 622. new software hasnt fixed it but they had the nerve to try to charge me $75 to replace the defective receiver with a 722 model. they said the 622 receivers were doing this so frequently that they have no replacements which will work properly. After 10 hours and 11 phone calls , 2 to the phillipines, I told them I would not pay anything for them to fix their problem. Each time I call the person i speak with trys to blame my TV or Remote and then finally admits its their own software problem. Its been going on for two weeks now and they can only say that for $75 I can upgrade to a 722. I have been happy until now with DISH but maybe its time to give Direct TV a try. I had much higher expectations since this is the first big problem I have had.
