"Get Tivo - Avoid this unit" on by txtech

Pros: Tivo is great service - changes your TV watching

Cons: Unit has known problems that Humax cannot and will not fix

Summary: everything you hear positive about Tivo is true. We have had (do have) several Tivo units and all work great. This unit has known problems with their remote (google humax tivo remote control problem) - and you will find all sorts of notes. Humax acknolwedges the issues and sends replacement units out automatically - but will not offer a refund (save your box for your retail store return). The replacement units (2 and counting) have the exact same issue. Tivo - yes, this unit - no

"a DVR/DVD recorder that does it all" on by Samhain425

Pros: intuitive interface, easy to program, convenient and takes up as much space as a VCR

Cons: so far I haven't figured out how to use my Xbox on the same TV as the TiVo

Summary: I was tired of using a VCR and countless blank tapes to record my favorite shows and sports teams. With the TiVo I never have to worry about that again and shows I want to keep I can burn on DVD and store easily. Programming which shows to record and burning shows to DVD have never been easier though you can't take commercials out but you can just fast forward past them, no big deal. Definitely a machine to look at if you haven't gotten a TiVo and are thinking about getting one.

"Tivo and DVD-R!! Can't beat that combo," on by Kroeg007

    Pros: TIVO, DVD-R

    Cons: Only 40 hours...

Summary: I'm new to the Tivo world and didn't know what to expect from any system, but I am extremely satisfied with my Humax Tivo/DVD-R. Very easy to setup! Had some problems with initial phone call to setup Tivo, but that was a problem with my VOIP phone company (Vonage). Hooked the Tivo to a plain old analog phone line and things worked perfectly. I've since hooked the Tivo up to my home network and it works great! Hooked up a linksys usb ethernet adapter with zero problems. Burning DVDs is a snap too. Insert the DVD, select the programs that you want burned and that's it!

As a newbie to the Tivo world with nothing to compare the Humax too, I love it! I would recommend it to anyone.

"Don't buy Humax products" on by bst0530

    Pros: NONE for Humax

Cons: Poor product support when they cause it to fail!

Summary: Had a working product till I did a support directed kick start procedure that caused it to fail completely. Now they want $210 to replace the unit with a rebuilt unit and a lost lifetime TIVO subscription!
