"So far so good!!!"on by mafenton
Pros Dual Tuner Great picture
Cons Confusing instruction
Summary I bought a manufacturer's refurbished unit at Fry's and I have a feeling they corrected most of the problems. So far the unit has performed flawlessly and the DVD recordings are crystal clear. Let's hope that it continues to go well!
Pros There are no pros to this machine
Cons Difficult to use and poorly built
Summary Don't purchase this machine.
Pros None. Zero. Absolutely no pros at all!
Cons Everything. This is a HORRIBLE product!
Summary Shame on you JVC! This is a cheap piece of garbage that does NOT work. Don't believe me? I owned 3 of these, and all three of these kept dying on me. I bought the first one, and it died. Took it back to the store, and exchanged it for another of the same brand. It died. Exchanged it for yet another of the same model- DR-MV1S, for the second time, and it also died. Finally, I sent this one back to JVC with a very angry letter.
My question is this- just why does JVC release a product like this, when they should KNOW it is a cheap P.O.S?
I owned 3 of the DR-MV1S models, and all three died a quick death.
What a waste of my time and money!
I will NEVER buy another DVD machine from JVC again.
Pros Umm... it's got a really pretty blue neon light!!!
Cons Everything Else about it...
Summary Got the dreaded loading error approximately 15 minutes after plugging in and setting up. The first thing I did was turn on the power save option. Then put a DVD-Ram into it. Started to record "The Dirty Dozen". Whups... loading error... couldn't even eject the disc. Unplugged unit. Let it sit overnight. Plug it back in. Well wadduya know... no loading error... but a disc error that says to check the disc, but the disc will absolutely NOT eject. Unplug unit. Let sit all day. Plug back in. Loading error. So let's see here... I've had this thing for 1 long weekend, and it has worked for about 14 minutes. Great job, JVC. Of course, I have to pay to ship their problem to them for them to fix, and they can't even give me a time frame for fixing it. NEVER EVER EVER buy ANYTHING from JVC. I mean it. This is apparently a problem that has been ongoing for nearly a year, yet they act as if it is a burden on THEM to fix it. Seems to me that they'd be bending over backwards to please their customers in hopes of building goodwill and keeing them as JVC customers. The phone rep actually asked me if I'd done something to the unit like trying to open it or something. Sheesh.
"It's not that bad"on by vgarcia3
Pros Good picture and easy to edit dvd-ram
Cons Cheap remote, hard to setup, input limited to coaxial only
Summary Let me begin by saying I am not an expert in this hardware, but I have never had any trouble setting up home theater equipment. This was by far the most difficult. I am using dbs so I'm sure that added to it, but still the manual should have been clearer. Also no IR controller for my box (to cahnge the channel on your cable box if you plan to do timed recordings) - that's pretty cheap of JVC. All that aside - good picture and fairly easy to use once it was setup although do you really want something that's "not that bad" I will probably be returning this one.
