A frustrating inferior product, don't waste your money.

Pros: Worked well when we first got it Surprised to find that the picture on our old analog set was better when we sent satellite signal through this player's tuner. But...

Cons: Shortly after getting it, we had problems with the unit reading discs...could sometimes get them playing if we re-loaded disc or cleaned it. Still problematic...had success with our initial recording attemps, but unit has failed repeatedly since.

Review: Lite-On's on-line site providing customer service is no longer available. Now you have to call them and incur a charge of $1.49 per minute for the privilege. Um, hello!? That will quickly exceed what we paid for it. My wife did talk to them and they recommended we try TDK or Imaginair discs. But it still will not read the TDK brand we tried. Will not record despite all attempts.

As a result of our troubles, I have no respect for this company's morals and ethics. In my opinion, if you have this unit and experience trouble, you're better off taking a hammer to it and investing in a competitor's product.

In between...

Pros: It works, fast formatting, decent quality, price....

Cons: None to think of...

Review: Take the worst review you've read, then take the best review - in-between them you'll find this DVD Recorder. If you are looking for this system to replace your VCR (like me), it's perfect. Recording quality is "slightly" better than VHS on SLP, and eaks out just over 6hrs of record time. A nice bonus, is that in addition to rear RCA inputs, it also has them in the front which makes hooking up a game system, or camcorder that much easier - just switch the imput on the remote. Formatting the disk takes about 30 seconds, which makes rewinding a VHS tape seem annoying all of a sudden. You can set the chapter creation from 5 - 30 minutes, so after recording you can choose what TV shows to watch from the menu. The DVD's created also work well on my laptop when on the road. I would definately recommend this recorder.

Lite On makes poor quality

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Nothing works correctly

Review: Every Liteon product I have gotten has been garbage. Internal DVD burner sucked. External DVD Recorder/burner for the TV sucked. I have returned each of these products to the company 3 times EACH! I still have two products that are useless. Even if you find one of these for $1 don't bother.

Out Standing For Price

Pros: Small Multiformat

Cons: Must use remote no onboard buttons

Review: Having this now for about 4 months I have had very good recordings and play back. The lack of button on the system hads its drawbacks but I guess this keeps the cost down. DO NOT LOOSE the REMOTE I could not make it work with any multi function remote.
Otherwise a great deal for the price. You get more for less in this one.

Good for burning DVD coasters only!!!!

Pros: Easy setup, nice menus

Cons: UNRELIABLE, UNRELIABLE!!!!

Review: Save your $$$ and buy a better machine. This one is worthless. I got about a 50% success rate. Tried different media types and brands. Every time the machine would fail to record in some NEW way. Stay away from this junker.

Inexpensive but functional

Pros: cheap, uses most media

Cons: takes some time to recognize disc's

Review: Little machine has an intuitive menu to run it. I have only used -R dvd's so far, but I've recorded in MPEG1 and MPEG2 and found my recordings to work well. I use the AV output's of my satelite receiver as the source so I cannot comment on the TV tuner.
For a $99 price plus a $20 rebate, this machine cannot be beat. You do have to finalize a -R disc before playing it on a computer.

Very pleased, easy set up ... works great

Pros: easy setup, menus are easy, excellent value

Cons: I haven't had any problems

Review: I disagree with the previous reviewer. I use this recorder at work to record video conferences. It works really well. Very inexpensive... but quality seems OK.

User Rating: 3/10

Frustrating and a waste of time.

Pros: Cheap, but that's it.

Cons: Built-in programs can prevent you from recording or reading your recorded video.

Review: I was able to record a good DVD video only twice! The rest are recording disasters!
First problem: I can record from TV shows but then after that I cannot record on the on unused portion anymore, when I tried to record on the unused portion, LiteOn says "Protected Content".
Second Problem: Other DVD recordings I've made with thie LiteOn unit, cannot be played back! LiteOn says: "Invalid Disc"!
Third Problem: LiteOn won't record anything anymore on brand new blank discs! Inserting a new DVD disc, LiteOn will prepare the disck then After going thru the Guider and hitting Go, LiteOn will attempt to record and then suddenly "stop" the recording ans says: "Protected Content". I stopped using this recorder after six or seven tries, I don't want to waste anymore blank DVDs.
