"Does what I bought it for"3.5 starson by cdosrun
Pros: Easy VHS-to-DVD conversion
Cons: Limited editing features, esp. when not using DVD-RAM discs
Summary: I bought my unit from Circuit City last week for $259 + tax.
After reading other's reviews, I expected the setup to be difficult but it went smooth.
Copying VHS to DVD is very easy.
Quality looks very close to the original VHS source.
So far I have dubbed about 10 VHS tapes. I haven't finalized them all yet but the ones that I have look pretty good and work on all of the other DVD players that I have tried.
One thing that I notice however, is a band of artifacts along the bottom of the recorded DVD. If my tapes were of good quality to begin with this might be a deal breaker but since the picture was not that great to start with, I don't mind the band per se. Although, I will call customer service to see I can get rid of it (Note: there is new firmware for this DVD on the web, I haven't downloaded it yet cuz things are working pretty smooth so far)
I am using Sony 1X-2X DVD-RW and 8X DVD-R discs. I have had no issues with either yet.
I did a lot of research before I bought this unit and I think it is among the best for the money. And so far i would still recommend it.
