"A terribly disappointing unit"
on by glaxtonPros It CAN record a tape onto a DVD
Cons It does so with terrible quality
Summary Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a combo unit. With a large and aging collection of VHS tapes, it seemed daunting prospect to put them all on DVD using my ATI All-In-Wonder card, and the interminable MPEG2 conversion, I thought I was getting a bargain buying this reconditioned unit for $179 Canadian. Too late I have realized that the low price was a fatal clue to the crappiness of the video quality. I never would have believed that my old Mitsubishi VCR from 1991 could produce higher quality VHS quality than a brand new VCR, but that's just what I'm seeing. The periodic pixelation, the graniness, and the fluttering in different parts of the screen is heart-breaking. Either Philips thinks we're all blind, or their determined to put themselves out of business - either way, stay AWAY from this unit. I'm going to have to wrestle to get my money back as it is.
