"very sleek paperweight" on by vbhoagie
Pros: stylish and affordable
Cons: extremely short lifespan, noisy operation, the "light touch" buttons are extremely sensitive and prone to firing when you accidentally touch them.
Summary: I bought this DVD player as a package along with a flat-screen tv. I love the TV just as much as the day I bought it, but the DVD player has been extremely disappointing. On the surface, it offers a lot---upconvert and HDMI along with a stylish package that I'd never seen on a DVD player before. However, it has been extremely unrelaible. It worked well for about 8 months. I used it about once a month during that time.
Then, however, it stopped playing DVDs all the way through. It would get midway through the disc then just freeze or being skipping indiscriminately to other points on the disc. Now, it won't play more than 30 seconds of a scene before skipping forward or back. I want to throw it across the room.
So, 14 months after I purchased this DVD player, it is destined for the dumpster since servicing it would cost as much as a new one. Samsung has a nice little racket going on with this one. Do yourself a favor, buy a different brand of DVD player. Samsung makes great TVs but crummy DVD players. Don't waste your money. -
"THE MOST HOPELESS DVD PLAYER" on by kichwakibov
Pros: CUTE DESIGN. PERIOD
Cons: EXTREMELY SLUGGISH MENU
PLAYS FEW FORMATS
NOISY WHEN PLAYINGSummary: Ive had this player for ONLY 2 DAYS and the thing just died on me...REFUSED TO PLAY/ READ ANY CD/DVD. Ive never seen a Dvd player with such a horrible lifespan. Too bad I read the real USER reviews a day after I bought it...none of these things are built to last more than 1 year..Did'nt even have the chance to use HDMI. Im not even bothering to fix it though it has a 1 year limited warranty. I'll just display it next to the new DVD player Im getting ASAP. DO NOT BUY THIS USELESS PIECE OF JUNK OVER YOUR DEAD BODY!!!! LOVE SAMSUNG LCD TVS THOUGH

"Perfect for the bedroom, not for the living room" on by Reznuel
Pros: Sleek and small size and style
HDMI-CEC compatible with other brands
upconverts to 1080p with HDMICons: Annoying beep w/ touch controls
Weird remote
Slow to open disc tray
No DTS export, only DDTSummary: Bought this to go with my Sony Bravia TV in my bedroom. I was looking for a small, upconvert DVD player and this was the best. Small, light, and black. It has one set of each type of input, composite, component, HDMI, and Optical Audio. No S-Video or DTS output, however, this doesn't mean it wont read your DVD's with DDT. it will, it just wont output it in DDT, so it goes to normal surround instead.
I would have like it better if it would have had a sport disc inject/eject system instead of the tray, but I guess the tray gives it more compatibility with smaller CD's and DVD's. The remotes button's are not laid out very well, touchy-feely wise. It's hard to know where the play/pause and forward/reverse buttons are on it. The DVD player menu is SLOW and looks like it was made in the 80's. It will automatically detect your tv's settings and convert up to 1080p. my 26" Bravia only went up to 720p so the player automatically chose 720i. You can choose manual mode tho, and pick progressive over interlace as well.
Overall, not a bad DVD player, but I would get the newer H1080R model for the same price instead. its better. -
"Failed after 5 months" on by jtravers2009
Pros: Cheap price
Cons: Cheap everything
Summary: Samsung knew what they were doing when they gave this unit a 3 month labor warrenty. I thought I would at least get a year or two out of this unit but it only lasted 5 months. Sending it in for repair will cost almost as much as I paid for the unit. I will not view Samsung the same way after this dissapointing product.

"Small, sexy, and performance is fine." on by ctilston78
Pros: Size! I didn't see any other DVD player even close to this small. Looks great! I paid $50 with a TV purchase at Best Buy.
Cons: A bit noisy and slow when loading a disk, fine when playing. DVD menu is pretty poor. You get options like "Disk Menu" and "Title Menu" that seem to vary in meaning depending on the DVD. The menu screen looks like it was developed in 1998.
Summary: Works. Great size and style. Cheap. It's not a high end DVD player so I won't review it like one.
