"Not too happy"
Pros: It does turn on and off
Cons: DVD R won't play in other devices, only 480i picture
Summary: Main reason I purchased was to have flexibility in recording shows to DVD-R and being able to take with on road or watch in another location. I can't get DVD-R to play in my Mac or DVD player in my bedroom.
As for 480i in/out-put. You will suffer if you have large screen tv with 1080i.

Appears I had some operator error issues associated with getting the DVD-R to play on other devices. It does indeed work very well and picture is great. 480i is not an issue when played on smaller screen.
So biggest draw back now is time it takes to burn the disc after recording....do it on your way to bed or on your way out the door to work.
