Pros Simple setup. Flawless integration with Windows Media Center. Just works. Record two shows at once. Record one show and watch one show. Watch two shows at once.
Cons Had to scan for channels on both Silicon Dust software and MCE software. Strongest connection through Wired connections, not wireless. Not enough time to watch all of the shows that I want to record.
Summary This is a fantastic solution to make use of the DVR features included in Windows Media Center. The setup was simple. I followed the default setup from the included disc. It searched for updated drivers, installed them, then ran me through a decent setup. Worked really well and I was up and running in about 5 to 10 minutes.
I am in Chicago with really good OTA signal for broadcast TV so the HD recordings are solid as long as I am connected to my network with a wired connection. I've used it over wifi with mixed results for live TV. It gets a little glitchy if I am more than 10 feet from the router and through walls, but it does work.
The recorded files are averaging about 7Gb per hour of HD broadcast television. So I will probably be getting a larger/faster drive to act as storage for all of the goodness this is recording.
