"Finally! A long wait but I love it!"

by MopTop on July 1, 2005

Pros: Easy setup with my wireless router (54g)

Cons: A long wait for the product

Summary: After following this thing since CES I finally found one - the last one - at CompUSA in San Francisco. It took no time at all to hook up, but make sure you read the box. I had to also buy a pair of powerline ethernet adapters because of the setup in my apartment.

I spent most of the afternoon showing people in the office how I can now watch my Tivo from the laptop and they were blown away. The video quality was very good too. Some of the reviews I've seen are a little critical of the video, I'm watching the Tivo IN MY HOUSE. How cool is that!

This may be a whole new idea for Starbucks, latte and TV (Sling are you listening?).

Hi everyone - I was one of the Slingbox beta testers and worked with the slingmedia team since the beginning of April. I've been placeshifting for over 3 months and can tell you that each day of use, you realize how you truly can control your access to YOUR media.
Setup evolved over time. I can tell you that the slingmedia team loves feedback and listened to everything the beta testers said. They are truly committed to this fine product. We helped test the UI as it evolved as well as the setup and the (now famed) slingstream optimization.
You'll realize that, unlike other internet media, there is NO buffering....pretty cool.
It is your media, anywhere. During my tests, I watched my local news and sports from 3,000 miles away. Here's a couple of nice ideas, once you're past the WOW factor (takes a long time).
1 - If you've missed scheduling a TiVo recording, do it remotely!
2 - Can't leave work to see the Michael Jackson verdict? Dock CNN in the corner of the screen and keep working.
3 - Don't have a TV by your swimming pool? Bring your wireless laptop! Just make sure that you exercise safe and good judgement when you have your laptop by water.
4 - Ticked that for "N" hours each day your TiVo goes unused (since you DO pay for 24-hour access)? Sling from anywhere!

I could go on, but once you get your hands on this baby, you'll continue to find new and different ways to enhance your viewing experience.
