"Don't bother with Blu Ray or HD DVD yet" on by cdproperties

Pros: Excellent Picture, Lots of options to fine tune visuals

Cons: Had to take the first unit back because hdmi jack was dead

Summary: I read the other 2 reviews and was impressed and also like the other guy I also have a Samsung DLP tv and if it work beautifully on his then it probably would work great on mine. I was initially very upset because the unit I got from circuit city did not work on my tv hooked up thru the hdmi jack. I took it back and got another unit from Best Buy at the same price (138 w/ tax). I hooked this one up, turned it on and my jaw dropped. I was one of those that was beginning to think that HD upscaling was an urban legend. I watched Shawshank Redemption and it was stunning. What even shocked me more was when I hit the info button on my tv to see the time (keep in mind my tv is the HLR 6167 720p) the display read 1920 x 1080i. This machine is by far the best I've ever encountered. I also tried the Samsung HD 860 and it was barely better than watching dvds on my xbox and then the sound went out. Definitely the Sony DVP ns75h is a must have. Just get one with an hdmi jack that actually works. You won't be disappointed.

"Excellent upscaling DVD player" on by arreview

    Pros: performs as advertsied

    Cons: none as yet

Summary: If you have a TV set capable of displaying 180I, this is the DVD player for you! I recently purchased a Sony KDS60A200 SXRD set and was advised that an upscaling DVD player would not be any better and my old Sony progressive scan player. NOT TRUE. The progressive scan player output at 480P, and while the picture was ok, it was certainly not even close to an HD broadcast. Using the DVP-NS75H, the DVD is now output at 1080i and the picture is very, very close to an HD broadcast. And on some DVDs you will have the added bonus of a larger picture as happened with me on my Independence Day DVD. As I said, this player works as advertised, and you will be satisfied, especially for the price!

"HD QUALITY with UPCONVERSION AMAZING" on by knicker

Pros: The picture with the HDMI connection is outstanding

    Cons: No one bad word!

Summary: While the battle of the formats continue and for those who can wait for those prices to come down on HD or Blu-Ray players. This DVD UPCONVERSION player is amazing. I'm dying to watch all of my DVD's again on my Westinghouse LTV-37w2. The picture is near HD quality and Sony continues to be top notch with all of the extras such as the picture displays and sound selections. A quality player for only $116 at Best Buy. I will certainly not be in a rush to get a HD or Blu-Ray player for a LOOONG time. Those movies cost too much and plus I have over 250 movies in my collection. By the way Star Wars Ep.3 looks AWESOME!

"$130 well spent" on by bearvp

Pros: HDMI, upconversion to 1080i, styling

    Cons: non-HDMI performance, basic controls

Summary: I bought this DVD player basically for just it's HDMI upconverting feature and ability to handle that function well. I definitely am not dissapointed. My first test DVD was The Rock Criterion Edition and the quality was very close to HD quality. Other lesser discs may not scale as well, but for $130 if some of your DVD's look like HD then that is a bargain.

The styling is great: sleek and thin. I have my player hooked up to an Onkyo receiver that can handle HDMI ins/out and there is no loss in the upconversion across the receiver.

Seriously, best way to bridge into HD-DVD/Blu-ray without spending alot of money is this player, hands down.

"Upscaling really works!" on by godothndr

Pros: Affordable and upscales beautifully to 1080i

    Cons: None I can find

Summary: So I just got this (based on the reviews) from Bestbuy for $110.00. It has not dissapointed; talk bout money well spent! I just purchased a 46" Sony LCD, and my old Sony player with S-video output was not cutting it. I sampled this the first night with the opening to Fellowship of the Ring using the HDMI output, and wow! The detail is entirely transformed from the s-video image. I shudder to think what Blue Ray must look like at 1080p but this was really quite excellent at 1080i. Also, it needed virtually no setup; the player auto detects the HDMI connection and you are off and running out of the box.
The only negative I can find (and this is simply an aspect of upscaling) was some faint lines in the background in some shots. Note: I was staring at the screen looking for flaws, and this was barely detectable. In any event it was far superior to pre-upscaling. This player will do me quite nicely until Blue-Ray comes down from the stratosphere in a year or two.
