"Excellent quality and value"
4.5 starson by msecourPros: Superb quality; versatile record settings
Cons: Users manual could be better organized
Summary: I've used this for over six months and have made well over 300 recordings. It is important to run a DVD lens cleaner periodically. (When the machine tells you the blank DVD is dirty or damaged, you know it's past time to clean your player.) I have used Fuji, Sony, HP and Panasonic media with complete success.
Copy protection is not a flaw in the Toshiba, but a legal standard for the industry. I must use DVD-RAM for HBO and Cinemax (and, more recently, some programs on the Encore channel). All other other satellite or cable channels record on DVD-R.
I particularly love the Hard Drive and its ability to create a playlist for dubbing onto a DVD. Record a program with commercials onto the hard drive, add chapter stops at each end of the commercials and create a playlist that is commerical free. Works beautifully.
Bottom line: my DVDs of satellite programs look as good as the original broadcast. This is a great machine.Updated
After just over 12 months of use, this machine has given up the ghost. Recording quality was excellent while it lasted. Repair estimate exceeds purchase price. I cannot recommend this product.
