AWESOME DVR/DVD BURNER BOX

Pros: Very intuitive/ easy to use; Very smart system; Comes with TiVo Basic

Cons: TiVo Plus teaser; Only burns DVR- @ 2x; Can't set shortcut buttons

Review: First and foremost, I must mention that is my first DVR TV top set, so I have nothing else to compare it to except to my high expectation. With that said, I absolutely love my Toshiba RS-TX60. I have it for over 2 months now and it has not dissapointed me yet. Aside from the basic pause, rewind, and fast-forward live TV feature, let me hit on all the "Pros" and "Cons". First Pro: I believe the operating system is Linux based (my first exposure) and it's very, very easy to use. You almost can't go wrong or crash the system. It's very reliable, so far. Pro #2: Recording programs is elementary. You don't have to think, it thinks for you. All you have to do is assign your favorite TV program in your priority list. You can also multi-task, i.e., watch a DVD while it records The Amazing Race, or watch a recording of Futurama while it records Project Runway. Pro #3: TiVo Basic is Free and works just like a traditional VCR (recording is manually set by you). Con #1: TiVo Basic is a teaser, because it comes with TiVo Plus as a 45-day trial. After the trial period, I went ahead and forked over $300 for the lifetime Plus service (of the machine only). Con #2: The burner is quite and reliable, but a little slow and only with DVD minus media. Takes about 1/2 hr to burn a 60 minute show. Con #3: I wish there was a way to set a shortcut for frequently accessed menu, but this is minor. Overall, I love my RS-TX60 and the TiVo Plus service. Although both machine and service is relatively expensive, it'll change your veiwing habits for the better. Note: I opted for the larger capacity TX60 over the TX20 so I can record most programs on Best Quality, instead of High, Medium, or Basic quality. If you can get this as a generous gift like I did, you should splurge on the Lifetime TiVo Plus.
Updated
I still love my Toshiba RS-TX60! It is still reliable, records and plays tv programs like it did on day 1. I overstated the burn time for an hour long program. Instead of 1/2 like I said earlier, it is actually 15-20 mins from programing to complete burn. However, I did experience frequent freezes with the unit. I resolved it by switching back to landline instead of wireless to make its daily update and also by adding a surge suppressor and UPS to the power supply. I do wish it reacted a little faster to the remote. Sometimes it takes a long 5 seconds to respond. Go ahead and count to five and you'll realize that is way to long for a unit to respond from a remote control.

Solid Unit Could use better video driver

Pros: Creates DVDs Quickly

Cons: No Digital Audio Input DVD-R/RW only

Review: Solidly built unit. AV outputs a little close to the USB Ports (Tivo Supported NetGear USB Adapter a little too fat to fit without extension cable.) Could use digital (coax or loptical) input to go from Cable box to device. A little noisy on the video input from the cable box and antenna. DVD recorder works well but only support the (-) camp not (+)
IR Blaster is functional and remote control does bare minimum on TV (power and volume and video select but volume breaks if you use it to control AV amp.)

Downchecks for video quality in Live TV and TIVO mode(tech support says all devices like VCRs and other Tivo have noisey video but my VCRs, other Tivo, PVRs, and video converters do not exhibit this problem.) DVD playback is without problem.
