Pros My Toshiba works fine, and I did sign up for Tivo Plus.Just about any program you could ever want to see is available to you.
Cons The cost over all is not worth it. You can now purchase home PC's with a tuner card/dvd burner (for archiving)and get a better deal.
Pros 80GB Tivo with Tivo Basic, progressive-scan DVD all in one slick silver unit with component out. So far its been very reliable. IF you've been waiting to try Tivo, this is the way to do it. Until DVD-R/Tivo combo pricing comes down to earth.
Cons It should really be a DVD recorder. Buying another box to archive "Tivoed" programs defeats the benefits of Tivo/DVD combo. The remote is a bit funky. Though it has a clean look, it's not a "thumber" (less ergonomic and often requires the use of two h
Pros It does everything we wanted it to do in a room that is not our main entertainment room. The Tivo Basic service is great - we currently have no intention of signing up for the Tivo Plus service.
Cons The remote does not control the TV channel up/down. And the aftermarket support for disk upgrades is very weak.
Pros Great combo unit, progressive scan capability. Good price ($400) for combined unit. Includes Tivo basic, a functional yet bare-bones version of Tivo. If you can live without all the "bells and whistles" of Tivo plus, you can pocket the $300 upgrade fee.
Cons 1) Fan or hard drive hums constantly when unit is off/standby. This has bothered other owners more than me. 2) Watching TV through Tivo has reduced quality when compared to watching TV connected directly to the cable. Consequently, I have the cable hooked
Pros Extremely easy, both setup and operation. Saves space by combining DVD player and TiVo unit without sacrificing features. DVD quality (on progressive output with component connections) looks fantastic, as expected.
Cons Installation not as easy as it should've been (no guide for cable box, Sd-h400, VCR and TV -- which seems like a common setup), and the aforementioned P/I switch bug (which impacts composite output to my VCR for unknown reasons) drove me crazy for days.
