"Olympus Competes With the Big Boy(s)"
Pros: Small, excellent audio
Cons: Firmware still developing
Summary: Olympus suddenly burst on to the scene with a recorder that poses the best competition to SONYs PCM-D50.
The LS-10 is an excellent recorder, producing superb audio, for $100 less than the SONY, and although it has only 2 GB onboard, it accepts SDHC which in theory should expand usable memory to 8 GB and beyond given the higher capacity cards on the market now.
The LS-10 also comes with two foam mic covers, in contrast with SONY's cheap approach of making you buy almost everything additional, including a MIC screen.
Both the LS-10 and SONY are similar in that you have to use mini connections for cables and external MICS, but this shouldn't be a problem for most folks.
I highly recommend the LS-10, and it is now, along with my PCM-D50 at the top of the solid state pack, with Zoom and other models trailing badly.

Dear Darobin,
I see that you are a journalist. Are you using the LS-10 for music or for voice. If for music, how would you judge its recording quality?
