Pros software, much better than olmpus, excellent editing and listening features
Cons recorder, junk, junk, junk, buy olympus vn4100pc on salr for about 39 dollars instead
Summary dont waste your time with this product. buy the sony to get the software, then return the product. then go out and buy olympus vn4100pc. buy a file converter or download a file converter so that you can edit recordings from olympus. the icd-620 recorder is just picks up hiss and all voices are muffled. vn4100 files will load into software without converter and you can listen to file but you cannot edit files. the olympus has crummy software.
if for some reason you cant return the sony then throw it away or give it to your worst client.
the recorder performance is not a rare incident i have exchange this product several times in order to see if i can get a working model. you will see how worthless this product is if you listen to it's performance with the olympus.
Pros This recorder has a bunch of cool features like mp3 recording and time stamp. Good battery life.
Cons Sony does not support the ICD-P620
Summary I recommend that you avoid this and all Sony recorders. They do not support their products.
I bought a ICD-P620 about 6 months ago. It works well, but requires Sony software to transfer audio files from the recorder. My old laptop died, so after buying a new one I attempted to install the software on the new laptop. The CD has a problem, so I went to the Sony download support page. The page says that there are no downloads available for the ICD-P620. So, I then contacted sony live support. They said that I cannot download the software. The only solution is to hook up an audio cable from the ICD-P620 audio out to the audio-in on my computer. This negates all of the cool features of this recorder like MP3 recording,
Please avoid sony voice recorders at all costs. They don't support their products
Pros I have used this recorder and it seemed to work well in the past.
Cons Had for appox. 1 year, now get error message "err 01" ,can not record or erase. Can't find out what it means. Recorder doesn't allow for indexing.Would like to see capability of attaching to e-mails and receiver be able to listen, without burning a cd.
Summary I like the size of recorder, but am really disappointed that there is no way to update or to determine error codes on recorder. I hate that it just quits working after 1 year and I have been careful with mine. It won't even turn off when gives error message, have to remove batteries. I want to see a product last long than it's warranty, and know engineers design things to only have a certain life span. Our economy is in a bad place because of that type of greed. Wanting the consumer to keeping buying there product time after time. It is just plain wrong. Treat people how you want to be treated and make quality products that last !!
Pros This recorder works great you can get it for 29 dollars from sony it was a refurb. When I got it looked new only difference was packaging it even had protective film on screen People have complained about muffled voices. mone sounds great.
Cons None. Mabee people had a defective batch and when returned they were fixed and the refurbished one I got was the result. I am picky about quality and this is a great sturdy product. So I can't find any cons.
Summary If you are looking for a basic simple to use recorder for lecters of pretty much anything. This works great. I am a Paranormal investigator and this recorder is very sensitive it can pick up the most quiet sounds even footsteps from a second floor and the usb connector makes it so easy to tranfer the files over and turn them into Mp3 files. Anyone can use it and it even has a mic out jack which is usually only on higher priced models. I honestly love this recorder and it is built tuff and can take drops. If may not have fancy features but this model is meant for having its files transfered to Pc so you can do all the fancy editing on your computer. Becuase of the USB depending on what you need to use it for the options are endless depending of the software you choose to edit with. So for you people that says this is no good and doesnt have more features then you need a more advanced recorder it does not make this a bad recorder for what it meant to do its amazing. And if you like to record EVPs this is the recorder to use you dont need tons of money to get clear EVPs this device can pick up the slightest sounds and to me thats imortant in a good recorder. If you want a solid recorder that can record all ranges of sound from far distances without breaking the bank than this is for you and the software is great and is so easy to use. But if your nervous about your purchase Buy a refurbished one from sony. Trust me it looks new and the screen has the protecter that new recorders have and there are no scratches plus you get it for alot less and it still has the same warranty but at least you know it will work becuase they replace whats wrong put it in a new shell. The recorders they sell as refurbs were new recorders that did not work from the factor then they replace the defective part. So it pretty much is a new one and you dont have to worry about it not working when you open the package and you end upf paying under 30 dollars instead of the 50 to 60 something. If you need a Digital USB recorder with 512 megs of ram then this is a must buy.
Pros Absolutely no redeeming qualities.
Cons You cannot rewind when you are recording. If you make a mistake or want to re-record something, too bad. Sony intentionally does not have "overwrite" which is apparently reserved for more expensive models.
