"Great for the price."4.5 starson by thomben2
Pros: Don't spend twice as much for very small differences in the sound quality
Cons: Slow fast forward and start-up time
Summary: Instead of setting up a mixerboard and microphones, which is not portable, I can get just as good of a recording using using this device. I like the variable gain control, I have used the high gain for recording outdoor nature sounds outdoors, and the low gain for recording band rehersals, which are very loud. It is very quiet, in my old cassette recorder days, I would always hear the motor whining in the background, but the zoom does not have this problem. After hearing several sample recordings on the internet with the zoom, and comparing it with other device samples, I could not see spending twice as much for very small differences in the sound quality. I am very satisfied with mine, it is serving me well. One complaint I have is the fast forward does not work very well on playback, and start-up and shut down is slow.
