"For the money, this service can't be beat."

by cedrowilli on April 2, 2005

Pros: Excellent pricing and voice quality. No worries about long distance, time of day, or length of phone call. Use existing phones and wires in your house. Works like land line for rings, etc.

Cons: Glitches once in a while with echoes or noise, but not very often. No fax support yet. E911 not everywhere yet.

Summary: Land line phone companies also seem to be glitched from time to time and cost a lot more. Their charges are also more confusing and their prices keep going up. At least with Packet 8, I don't pay as much for malfunctions as the land line competitor.

No confusion, either, with flat rate. There are also other features such as voicemail, virtual office, caller ID, call waiting, and a lot more that are included. A great way to have high-speed internet pay for itself in phone bill savings.

Usually, quality is OK, but will mess up at times. Lightning took out the phone adapter (and Linksys router). Tech support argued with me, ran up minutes on my cell phone, said that getting to a land line to talk to them was "my problem." That's not customer service.

The power light on the adapter wouldn't come on, and they said I needed to wait until my router (on it's way back from Linksys already, and which gave me no problem, by the way) was installed before I could try the adapter again. Rediculous! For a Power indicator? Packet 8 isn't any better at tech support either.

They are so wrapped up in following stupid protocols, they won't bend an inch, and so hose the customer. 'Bye, 8x8...

Packet 8 customer service was absolutely abhorrant! Compared to Vonage, Packet 8 CS is abyssmal. The phone service would have echos from time to time, fail out completely at times, and the adapter boxes are pretty bad.

The tech support are totally untrained and intellectually VACANT. They follow a script, a preset format of troubleshooting procedures written for morons. They force-feed the customer each step. If you miss a step you go no farther. I tried getting a defective adapter box replaced, and couldn't because of the t-shooting procedure. I'm sorry I recommeded these clowns.

Vonage has been a breath of fresh air. I used their customer service, and they were very good.
