"Big fan. SkypeIn/Out works great for me!"
Pros: Crystal clear PC to PC calls, SkypeIn phone number awesome for living/travelling abroad
Cons: SkypeOut quality not perfect
Summary: I initially thought, what's the big deal with Skype? I can voicechat if I want with MSN or Yahoo or whatever. But the SkypeIn/Out features and the fact that friends of mine seem to be adopting the service fairly easily and redily made it a great addition to my communication world.
Recently moved from Canada to Sweden and so phonecalls back and forth are pricey. A couple months ago I picked up a SkypeOut account which allows me to make cheap calls to landlines all over the world, and I've been satisfied with the call quality. Still get the occasional breakup or static, but it's a small price to pay for the uh, small price that you pay. So there's room for improvement.
I was a little weary therefor, of the SkypeIn feature - especially since it's still in beta and there is a disclaimer about possible quality issues on the Skype site. I decided to get a 3 month subscription and have been pleasantly surprised! Call quality seems even better than with SkypeOut! I'm originally from Vancouver, Canada - but have lots of friends in the States and many of my friends and family back home have unlimited N. American long distance plans...so I picked up a number in L.A. (Hollywood, actually!) Very cool. Once Skype gets Canadian numbers, I'll pick up one, but for now this is the next best thing.
So no matter where I am in the world, as long as I've got net access I can recieve calls from friends and family. And if I'm away I can have calls directed to voicemail or forwarded to a landline or cell phone. What more could you ask for?
Thanks Skype. Big fan.
