"Excellent service - no dropped calls (DON'T MIX 2.4GHZ ROUTER AND 2.4GHZ PHONES THEY SENT)"

by oracleminded on December 31, 2005

    Pros: Clarity, reliability,price

Cons: DROPPED CALLS CAUSE BY MIXING 2.4 GHZ ROUTER AND 2.4GHZ PHONES

Summary: The service really is great. I refused to use the phones they sent me. They are running at 2.4Ghz.

I explained to Sunrocket that they are causing their own dropped calls by not realizing the most wireless routers for VOIP are in fact using 2.4Ghz as well. These two devices interfere with each other.

I honestly believe that's what is causing everyone's dropped call problems. Just call them and tell them you have a router at 2.4Ghz and that you are using the 2.4GHZ phones they sent. In my opinion, they should ask you as part of the sale of the service what wireless router you have before they send you any phones so they can send a non-interfering set.

YOu are correct in realizing that the 2.4 GHz router and the Sunrocket phones interfere with each other, but that is not the reason for dropped calls.

I experienced Sunrocket for myself and tried everything including a hard wired phone. No difference. The fact is, in some places in the US, internet service is better than others. In New York, where they are constanly rewiring, fixing obsolete wiring, your service can be poor to excellent. This is what is causing the more serious break-up in your calls or the delayed voice or the recieved not being able to understand you (sounds like a cell phone).

Until all internet service is 100% steady and consistant, you will not get everyone to say the service is great...you will have mixed reviews and that is not Sunrocket's fault...they too are a victim of the telcos.

I discovered the disconnection problem long before I ever used SunRocket and there is an easy fix. Log into your router and change the default channel to something else; this will change the frequency of your router and voila, no more disconnects!
