"Goodbye Verizon!"
Pros: Inexpensive, many features, and it works!
Cons: No name on caller id.
Summary: I decided to try VOIP after seeing the Vonage commercials on TV early last year.
After many hours of research, I chose Sunrocket. Thirty day trail period.
No connect/disconnect fees. Yearly fee of $199 for unlimited calling in the U.S.
Overseas calling seemed reasonable, although I don?t use this service.
I received my ?Gizmo? (router) three days after ordering. Hooked up in only a couple of minutes and I had a dial tone. Incoming calls worked a couple of days later as advertised.
The features I have used, caller ID, call forwarding, online phone management, all work well. The only complaint is that the caller ID gives only the number of the caller.
Voice quality is perfect, and people have no idea that they are talking on a VOIP line unless I tell them.
The service was down once because of an outage with the cable company.
I disconnected my old phone service, then physically unplugged the incoming wires from the customer access box outside the house. That allowed me to plug the phone line from the gizmo directly into an unused wall jack. It polarizes the signal through my existing wiring and I can use all of my old phones as before.
For $ 16.58 per month, and excellent quality, I highly recommend this service.
You will take great pleasure in kissing your old phone company goodbye!Updated
The caller ID now shows the name of the caller as well as the number. I continue to be pleased with this service.

I currently have Verizon for my local & long distance phone service. Every month I get a phone bill and I get disgusted with their fees (FCC, surcharge, etc.), which all come out to about another $10 to the plan that I signed up for (Verizon Freedom Plan). So, my bill would come out to about $40, not including the DSL service. Besides, I rarely make many LD calls or even local calls during the month.
Anyway, I was reading the review from CNET -it stated that SunRocket VoIP service has no fax capability - sometimes it might work and don't. Do you or anyone out there use the fax machine and does it work? -
zaq21 - Great review....and I've been quite happy with SunRocket. I got it based on your review. I do have a question though.....about how you used the rest of the phones in your home. You simply placed a regular phone line in "port 1" of the gizmo and plugged that into a normal "wall jack" and it worked ?

Makes you wonder how ZDNet has ignored SunRocket for so long.

Your idea about disconnecting the land line phone saved me big on new phones. Now I can still use the old ones and save even more money! I hope the bigger traditional phone companies do not buy up our VoIP service. Thanks very much!
