I had to be really picky to come up with any cons. They are really only minor annoyances, this is a great car. We've had this car since August of 2005 and are still loving it. People come up to us on the street and try to buy it from us! For a diesel, it has great acceleration and power. I have peeled out into traffic before - to some amazed looks ;-D.

The bottom line is you can't get more passenger comfort and luggage space for 39mpg highway for any price! We take it everywhere and its never let us down. My husband commutes 130 miles per day to work, and this car costs us the same to operate as a Toyota Tercel. You won't find power sunroof, heated seats, premium CD changer, etc. in the Tercel tho.

Its very solidly built, and when its not packed full of people and luggage it handles like a German sportscar. It handles well also when loaded, very little body roll and plenty of control.

We find VW dealer service shops to be above average in their level of customer service. So far we've only had routine maintenance and one recall done, no actual repairs.
