"Stopped working after 9 months and cannot be fixed"

0.5 stars  | on by mommy-2-all-boys

Pros

Less water

Cons

My 9-month-old washing machine has not worked for 3 months. After 8 visits from the repairmen they have deemed that it cannot be fixed. Stopped spinning and draining. If I could rate this zero stars I would!

First, I would like say that I have nothing against the store itself. My complaint is against Maytag. We purchased this washing machine on January 28, 2011. At the end of October, when it was 9 months old, it stopped spinning and draining. It was still under the manufacture's warranty so they sent out a repairman....and another...and another until today was our 8th visit. We are now 3 MONTHS into not having a working washing machine. Every imaginable part including the transmission (which was a $600 part and cost more than the washing machine itself) was replaced. As of today, it is still not working and there is nothing else they can do. Maytag has been terrible telling us that they would give us an additional year warranty (we had already purchased a 4 year extended warranty, but who wants a washing machine that doesn't work for months at a time and at this point there is no chance it will ever work again). After the 6th visit, they told us that they rely on their repairmen to be their "eyes and ears", but the repairmen have been saying for weeks that there is nothing else they can do. We've had 2 motherboards, a motor, a timer, belts, 2 actuator motors, springs, and a transmission replaced. The cost of parts alone could have purchased several new washing machines. We are currently waiting to hear from Maytag as to what they plan on doing to resolve this issue. We purchased a Maytag because my parents' washing machine lasted for 30+ years and it came highly recommended by family and friends. I would NOT recommend a Maytag at this point to anyone. It has been nothing but frustration the past 3 months. The repairmen have all said that they are made very cheap now with plastic parts. Check out Maytag's Facebook page where they have complaint after complaint about their products. Sad that we cannot trust American made products anymore.

"Makes me wish for my old Maytag Neptune"

2 stars  | on by KMumford

Pros

Uses much less water

Cons

Washer tends to smell really bad (not mildew but more like a chemical smell from the manufacturing process). Only uses a couple of inches of water which isn't enough to cover the clothes, so it makes you wonder whether it gets the clothes clean.

Summary

Maytag did not live up to their reputation with this one!

"I do not recommend this washer"

2 stars  | on by mauidog1998

Pros

Easy to use; washes acceptably.

Cons

Poor spin cycle-towels and heavier clothes stay too wet.

Summary

I have had this washer about 7 months. It does not spin clothes dry enough. My old washer was 15+ years old and did a better job. I am having to run everything thru an extra cycle inthe dryer since day one. Get something else.
