"It's great, for as long as the battery lasts..."

by sotyakr on March 8, 2005

Pros: Accurate, rugged, solar charged battery

Cons: Solar charged battery, big and bulky (as a G-Shock, to be expected)

Summary: Like several other reviewers, my Casio GW300 also died a little over a year after purchase. The watch was exposed to direct sunlight at least 40hrs a week, but eventually refused to take a charge. Fortunately, it was purchased at Costco, and they gave me a full refund, no questions asked. Guess I'll be sticking to "old fashioned" replaceable battery powered watches from now on.

I owned my watch for about 5 years and it quit on me due to the fact that the solar battery back up takes only so many charges before it quits taking a charge. I wanted a solar watch that would not have to replace the battery . This fact is you might as well forget about the Solar aspect of it. I hope Casio gets a solar back up that will last at least a decade because you can buy a conventional battery that will last that long.

I also got mine at Costco over 3 years ago. I live in a typical stucko home in Orange County, Souther California. I don't go out of my way to be on nthe sun to charge the battery, due to medical problems I pretty much stay away from direct sunlight. Still... I have no problems yet with the battery. The watch has no problems keeping exact atomic time from Fort Collins Colorado, quite a distance away. I love it, I shower with it too. The price was right and the worry free battery that recharges is wonderful. The numbers are bigger than usual. I can hear the alarm but would love a louder one. Only problem I have is that I keep forgetting how to turn the "snooze feature alarm" off... Then, it may be something starting to go wrong. If it goes bad on me, I would buy a similar Casio Watch again. According to my needs, I give it a 9.5 rating.
I would buy a similar watch right now, "atomic time & rechargable battery" if it also measures blood pressure and Heart rate...
