Pros: Light weight, looks good, runs 4 months on 1 button battery, cool analog lights display, Bluetooth sync to iPhone app.
Cons: Calorie estimate off by a magnitude of 9-10x. E.g., a 170-lb person walking 1 mile does NOT burn 1200 calories!

Summary: I got one of the first Shines as an Indiegogo pledge reward. I already use a Nike FuelBand so was interested in comparing the two monitors.
Setup of the Shine was difficult because it comes with two CR2032 button batteries, one of which must be installed. They provide a "tool" to open the case but no instructions as to how. After several attempts to pry it open I searched the web to find someone's YouTube video explaining that one should not pry up but rather push in holding the tool at a 90-degree angle.
In order to get actual data/numbers from the Shine you must BT pair it with your iPhone/iPad (only at this time - no Android or desktop) and install/set up the free Shine app. Mine did a firmware upgrade on the Shine as soon as I paired it. The app walks you through adding your gender, DOB and weight, goal, shows you how to sync (tap the screen and hold the Shine close to the phone - it does not need to be touching despite what they say), then dumps you to the app's main screen.
There are no further instructions in the app or on Misfit Wearables' site - it took me a while to figure out I had to touch the tiny arrow below "Today" in order to reach the "My Goal", My Shine", and "Settings" options.
After wearing both on the same wrist for a day I noted:
- the Shine recorded ~5% fewer steps than the FuelBand
- the Shine's estimated calories burned was MUCH higher than realistically possible.
- as expected, the Shine's activity point system bears no relation to Nike's proprietary Fuel points.
As an early adopter I'm hoping that they come out with a FW upgrade to fix the incorrect calorie estimating algorithm.
