Pros storage, works well with an iphone or ipod
Cons Customer service still does not exist. I have submitted dozens of support tickets over the last year and not heard even an acknowledgement of receipt and I am a paying customer. Logging into the site can take forwever (in digital time). Opening up an ema
Summary I started with Mail City then to Lycos. Lycos customer support is non existent. They may fiercely disagree, but they respond or acknowledge tickets even by robo-mail. The web service is slow and inconsistent.
Pros They do have large storage capacity.
Cons Their new system is worthless--a huge step down from the old system.
The site logs you out every couple of hours--even if you're in the middle of typing a message.
The spam filtering is now a joke, and the same spam reappears no matter how many times yo
Summary I've been a Lycos Mail customer ever since they were Mail City. Complaints about the new system are answered with a form letter about how they're keeping up with the industry standard, without addressing any of the above problems. I hate change, but this horrible system is on its last leg.
Pros Free, online, venerable.
Cons Forced ads, if you skip, you're prompted to sign in again;
No POP3 access, of course;
Poor search functions;
Limited spam filtering.
Summary Lycos Email just had a disaster a few days ago. All old email in the account are gone. Initially the Trash folder was not accessible. Now it is and I was happy to see the large number of email in it. It turns out it's just a number. Only a tiny portion of the old email is there, with 3 copies of each message. They're trying to hide the severity!
Don't do it if you are not sold to it by your previous online email provider and can afford to lose that email address.
Pros Um.... NOTHING!
Cons Well, seeing as it's been down... that's bad. I had eudoramail; then it became lycos (and worse); and now it's TRULY the worst: Zimbra! Did I mention... it's been down! AGAIN!
Summary DO NOT SIGN UP! I will be deleting my account if the site ever comes up again....
Pros This is what I like about LYCOS.COM. Nothing, Nothing, and more Nothing!!
Cons This is what I dis-like about LYCOS.COM. Everything, Everything, and more Everything!!
Summary WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "OLD" LYCOS.?? I CAN'T GET INTO MY EMAIL ANYMORE BECAUSE OF "500 INTERNAL SERVER" ERRORS AND "404" ERRORS. WHEN I WAS GETTING INTO MY EMAIL, THE RESPONSES TO "DELETES", ETC., WERE RIDICULOUSLY LONG. ALL OUR OTHER EMAIL SERVICES THAT WE USE (I.E., YAHOO) ARE EXTREMELY FAST. I TRIED TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT TO LYCOS, BUT I CAN'T EVEN GET INTO MY ACCOUNT!!! ZIMBRA, YOU MIGHT AS WELL PACK IT IN AND GO HOME. YOU HAVE ALREADY LOST THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS. YOUR POOR AND IRREVOCABLE REPUTATION IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. MY ONLY SYMPATHY GOES TO THOSE EMPLOYEES THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS MESS, BUT WILL PROBABLY END UP GETTING BLAMED FOR IT. GOODBYE LYCOS, I'VE NOTIFIED ALL OF MY CONTACTS AND MOVED ON TO GREENER PASTURES !!
