"is cnet being paid off by yahoo?" on by skrilled
Pros: free, easy to use, integrated with your current yahoo account
Cons: way way way much better options out there
Summary: I'm just wondering how much yahoo paid cnet off in order to be called the best free email service...
Yahoo allows spam companies to whitelist their servers for around the cost of 5 grand... Whitelist means no matter what you do spam from these companies goes to your inbox.
Gmail does everything it can to prevent spam period.
Not only that, yahoo charges you for a 2gb inbox. Gmail gives it to you for free.
Gmail has tons of built in features that make yahoo look like a child's toy...
You'd have to be a complete retard to agree with cnet's review. -
"crumbling infrastructure" on by paliphil
Pros: really good when it works
Cons: constant outages and no customer support
Summary: Over the last several months, Yahoo's mail product has turned from a consistent and innovative product to rival the worst that corporate America can offer to consumers. This has included the whole mail site being down for hours at a time, with no refunds offered, cutting access off for using too much storage (for a site that offers unlimited storage), minimum 45 minute hold times, form answers to emailed questions that take 24 hours to receive with no followup

"Go Elsewhere for Email" on by BoogieJack
Pros: Availability.
Cons: Spam Spam Spam
Summary: After many years of service (free), I've had to get a gmail account. Yahoo's spam controls are of no value. My spam settings are supposed to limit my inbox msgs. to only those whose address is in my contacts list. It doesn't work that way. I've found personal msgs in the Bulk (spam) Folder and spam gets to my Inbox. At least a third of the screen is used for animated advertising. Sometimes the advertising causes the email service to freeze up. Don't bother contacting Yahoo about any problems you experience. They don't respond.

"MUCH better out there" on by wolvei3
Pros: Nice storage size
Cons: Pretty much everything else
Summary: The fact that the spam blocker they use really DOESN'T block spam, and the fact that most of the spam is porn or some other lame type ad for a purchase, AND the fact that places like CNET rate it so highly is another example of how Corporate America couldn't care less about what people REALLY want.
Gmail is MUCH better at spam blocking, and you dont have to upgrade to a paid service to get it.
