"'I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!' when I use this!!" on by hootntoot

Pros: Well, I guess you could say that this webcam has a built in mic so you don't have to spend more money to buy one?

Cons: The picture quality is horrible, absolutely horrible. I replaced it once thinking the first one was defective. It freezes in Skype, Gmail, Yahoo/Window Messenger. It's an absolute piece of crap. Oh, did I mention that it's an absolute piece of crap?!

Summary: I think this is the first time I've ever written anything about any product I've ever purchased. I'd have to say that 80-90% of the time I'm happy with most of the things that I purchase, but boy, this one's a doozy. Here's the skinny...

First of all, are all of the other reviewers here sniffing Crazy Glue or something? Did I miss the boat??? This 'fine' camera from Logitech is a complete piece of sh^t!!!

I moved out of state ahead of my wife for a promotion and wanted to video chat with her at night and on weekends. I already had a cheapo Creative Webcam Instant that I've always been really happy with. I purchased this Logitech for my wife's computer thinking that with the Carl Zeiss lens and mic, that it would be like 100 times clearer and better than my webcam.

    Boy was I wrong.

We tried every setting in the book, but the video was still pixelated and crappy. We have a newer Dell running up-to-date XP pro SP3, top of the line Nvidia and Audigy cards, 4 GB of memory, and so on. In other words, there's no interference with hardware/software. In fact, I installed the first one on my personal computer and it too was caca doodie. Anyway....

So we returned the first one about a month later and exchanged it for another, only to find it too was doing the same thing. Yes, before I installed the new one I completely uninstalled all of the original Logitech files, went through the registry, swept everything, etc...basically wiped out any signs that the Logitech was ever installed on the computer.

Conclusion: We've had this web cam for a few months now and are just using it to get our money out of it - $99.00. Can't wait for the summer of '09 when we have a good BBQ, I'm going to throw this M@!$%r F^*@%r in the fire!!!!

ps I found on Google, that this camera is known to have problems with the focusing mechanism jamming up and not running smoothly causing what we've been experiencing. I guess some poor quality assurance in their product??

"Works great, easy to install" on by MNbobster

Pros: Great image quality. Easy install and configure. Software easy to use. Works great with Skype 4.0 and Yahoo Messenger.

Cons: The way it hangs on your monitor is not very good. By not very good, I mean easy to knock off. It would be better if it was more secure.

Summary: Don't install off the CD. Download the latest Quickcam software from Logitech or it will want to update immediately, which takes a while. We use 5 of these at the college and one AF. All of them work fantastic.

"It was great until it broke my laptop" on by bfarlay

Pros: It was easy to install. The images seemed clear and the color was okay.

Cons: One day it stopped working. After that none of the USB ports on my laptop would function.

Summary: This product is seriously flawed. I bought it so I can use it on my HP laptop when I'm at work or traveling. It is the only USB device I usually use, other than occasionally a USB flash drive. One day the picture seemed to lock up and freeze during use. So I unplugged the camera and plugged it back in. It no longer produced an image. I tried a different USB port but that didn't work either. I tried my USB flash drive but even it no longer worked. I took the laptop in to have it checked out and the tech guy told me something had burned out the USB ports. That "something" was the Logitech Pro 9000 webcam. It cost me $250 to get it repaired. I took the camera back to Best Buy where I bought it and asked them to pay for the laptop repairs. They refused to pay for the repairs and wouldn't take back the camera because it was past the 30 day replacement period. I'm very upset with Logitech because of their shoddy products. I will never buy another Logitech product as long as I live. My recommendation is if you have one of these webcams to stop using it.
