"Icarus Continued"
Pros: Best NES game EVER
Cons: Uh... yeah right.
Summary: The music also doesn't deserve a diss. This is from an era when Casio keyboards were all the rage, and stainless steel calculator watches were cool (as much as a geek is qualified to assess "cool"
The music is well composed to correspond with the stages of the game: World 1 is great music for a young hero beginning a quest. World 2 gives a sense of perserverance, and World 3 (Skyworld) is optimistic and indicitave of Pit's triumphs in righting the wrongs of Medusa's corrupt reign of tyrrany. The Underworld music conveys a level of mystery and monotony as you traverse the treacherously trapped rooms in your tighty whities...
As for the comparison to Metroid: honestly, I don't have any idea what Frank's talking about at ALL. Metroid is repetitive and sparse, and I didn't have the patience for it when I was 11: let alone now.
Kid Icarus is a wonderful, delightful, fun and frustrating game that has withstood the test of time. I agree with Frank that I don't understand why it hasn't developed beyond a Gameboy sequel and a resurrection on Wii. Perhaps Nine-Ten-DOH! will update this classic... until then, I don my low res loincloth and fight for Palutena, while trying to remember not to get too close to the sun...
