"Awesome game! Best Mario game ever!" on by whatsgood379
Pros: Great level depth, gradually increasing difficulty, very well designed in terms of controls, levels and story
Cons: Child-Like, Cartoonish
Summary: While it seems very cartoon-like, and childish at first, this game captures the interest of even a more advanced gamer in his late 20s.
The design is beautiful, levels are very well thought out in terms of diffuculty, puzzles, and art. The innovation is the Wii controller, which easily controls Mario even when he is walking upside down on the bottom side of the planets. The game also provides a learning curve, making the first few stages/bosses extremely easy while the player is still learning to use the controls and Mario's abilities. It soon gets tougher with each level and difficulty increases gradually throughout (I have only finished the initial 25% of the game so far).
The co-operative mode is fun, and my wife loves playing with me; however, I feel that the two player mode where players take turns is missing - this would probably add to the game.
The levels have great depth, with lots of items, hidden areas to discover. Many times you will realize there's another part of an area that you can access only after running through the level several times. If you haven't played any of the recent Mario games, it may seem overwhelming at first, but you will know exactly what you're doing after just 1 to 2 hours of play.
The levels have enough variety in them to keep the player interested. Each planet/galaxy has something unique in terms of Mario's abilities, enemies, puzzles/obstacles, and design. I've gotten past a number of levels already, but do not feel at all that the game is repetitive.
Overall, I am normally a tough critic, and would seldom give a perfect grade, but there really isnt much that could be done better in this game. It is as close to perfection as it gets.
Thank you Nintendo! -
