"Limited Flexibility - Locked into MS in a Hybrid World"
2.5 starson by rhonindkPros: Fast, easy, can lock to desktop if needed, great improvements in certain features (task mgr, etc...)
Cons: Media Center gone / DVD support
Fugly squares with limited options - wasted real estate
Extra functions tied to MS login
Functions locked to Bing (don't like or use it)
Functions are difficult to find
Not intuitive (basics) like previous versionsSummary: Not bad but it lacks that "I want this" that came with Windows 7.
This is looking like a good one for touch but for most notebook / desktop users it will be a pain in the keister.
Has potential and a long ways to go.

Media Center gone / DVD support - Not true, its an addon (which coincidentally is free right now)
Fugly squares with limited options - wasted real estate - Actually it's all about real estate and the options are not limited. You can strip out every icon on the start screen and create your own. That would not be a good idea on the old start menu. Secondly the start menu forces you to focus on about the bottom left 15% of the screen. The start screen enables you to use 100% of the screen so in fact much better real estate. All the metro apps are designed too to ensure maximum real estate (hence the slide in menus).
Extra functions tied to MS login - This only really covers roaming features like favorites. It's also entirely optional so you are tied to nothing.
Functions locked to Bing (don't like or use it) - Like what? I only found the Bing app.
The last two:
Functions are difficult to find
Not intuitive (basics) like previous versions
Yep - I agree, room for improvement here. -
It can go back to a more Windows 7 (like) desktop if you want it to.
