Summary: If I were to install Vista I would have to 1.Buy a new film scanner. 2.Buy a new printer. 3.Buy a new flatbed scanner. 4.Replacement for Norton security. 5. Not sure about system mechanic. That alone would make the real cost to me to be in four figures. "If it aint broke don't fix it"

Despite my 'negative review' of Vista (I'm surprised that some submissions are so vitriolic about Vista - have they Microsoft shares?) I find it excellent when it comes to organizinig and finding individual images. Also on the plus side IE7 is way more secure(can be run with XP Pro also) The photo slide show gadget on the desktop is very 'cool'- can a 68yr old use that word?! My two current critics,who's views I respect, should let Microsoft sort probs.and don't take offence when somebody doesn't trust Vista YET. BTW. I have to replace my Nikon Coolscan which will cost me 650Euro approx.and MS and Nikon inform me that there's no Vista driver and won't be.

True XP is getting updates for a few more years, but they are going to be bare minimum updates with little security updating. Vista is Microsoft's main focus now.
Norton will update to Vista if requested. -
I am about to buy a new laptop. Most of the units under the brand I prefer are pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium. As I noted in some comments, there are cons about this new OS. Because of this, I have reservations in buying a unit with Windows Vista. I am currently using Windows XP and Windows 2003. <br>Now, here are my quries:<br>1. Is migration from my current system to this new OS will give me nightmares?<br>2. Is it possible to uninstall the pre-installed OS and install it with ealier versions like Windows XP or Windows 2003?<br><br>I would really appreciate your inputs. They will serve as my buying guide.

may i inquire from you guys if this OS is still compatible with MS Office 2003 or Windows XP? If the answer is NO, it will surely cost me more to buy MS Office 2007. Sorry about the question but I'm not an IT person.

Beside looks like you need an upgrade already, whit all those things outdated. I only had to wait for the printer driver to come in.<br><br>And what the heck is "system mechanic"?

when I upgraded to Xp I got a virus 3 seconds after going online. Vista is a good stepup, its still not OSX (I use it also), but a large improvement over XP, the Search, and "Switcher" are extremly usefull to me. I've had no problem installing my software/hardware, and Norton is just bad altogether, the first thing I did was uninstall it from Vista. Microsoft put out a good product, i'm still getting over my shock, but it's true Vista is good.

I'm really sick and tired of little minds who evidently get their kicks out of bashing products. I click to read <i>User Opinions</i> and find yet another miscreant who <i>hasn't even used</i> the product pontificating about Vista's supposed deficiencies. Enough already!

I've had vista for months and I didn't have to upgrade anything and I have a 5 year old printer hooked up to it and a 3 year old scanner hooked up to it. The changes are much more substantial than you seem to think.

For the most stuff that you mention you just simply wait for the new drivers to come out. Norton out of your list is the only thing you would have to replace.
