    "Vista is fun"

by pcomitz on January 26, 2007

    Pros: Fun to use

    Cons: none really

Summary: A quick read of many of the reviews here shows that it is impossible for a Microsoft product to get a fair judgement from many. Microsoft bashing is both fashionable and hip. Folks that bash Microsoft think they are sophisticated (especially true with journalists). The same folks who gush over minor Firefox upgrades bash Microsoft at every turn. (I read one review that rated Firefox superior to IE 7 because of the placement of the forwward/back buttons - does anyone really care? ) Asking for an open public rating of Microsoft is a bit like asking the general public to rate George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees. The vocal bashers will crawl out of the woodwork.

It's simply human nature to hate the "haves" :)

Have a nice day everyone :)

I understand that you want to stand up for Microsoft, but you could have atleast posted details on why you gave it an 8. You're no better than the people who bash it if the only reason you gave it an 8 was because of them.

I just recieved a new dell laptop and it came with windows vista home premium. I have to say that yes it does require a bit more ram, memory, and proccessing power but if your not cheap you can get all these things. The overall rating I give Vista is a 9 out of 10. I love the graphics, it is very easy to use, and it is just plain cool. I do however have one problem and that is not all my external hardware is compatible such as my flashdrive but I contacted the manufacturer (scandisk) and they will release a software update in March to fix this problem so other than that I would highly recommend Vista. If you have a slow computer however you might want to stick with XP which honestly I never cared for (to many bugs and freezes a lot).

We just feel sorry for suckers like you who bought the line hook and sinker the before you digested it you think you can give a review anybody is going to listen to. Really it has only been a few days! If I want some thing in Vista someone will post it, like media 11. Also my XP Pro works fine and locked up by other security software. Been safe for 5years now. If it ain't broken don't fix it or should I say CHARGE FOR A MAKE OVER. Does the same damn thing.

And then, of course, the MS fans come out of the woodwork and calls anyone with a legitimate, yet negative analysis, of an MS product crazy/lazy/Mac fans/unfair/biased, what have you. Vista is not a good OS. There are any number of reasons for this:
    1- Resource hog (15GB to install? ***?!?)
    2- EXPENSIVE
3- DRM- limits how you can use your LEGIT media (see article cited in #9 that reveals -gasp- Vista automatically reduces the quality of your HDDVD or Blu-Ray movies during playback).
4- UAC. It's like an overprotective parent nagging away your computer experience. Too many prompts/lockouts to installs and hardware upgrades, even when user is logged in as an ADMINISTRATOR. We USE, and more importantly BUY, computers, they shouldn't be nearly so restrictive on us. Anyone who really needs that nagging parent is going to severely jack up their system anyhoo. It would be best left in the trash.
5- Performance. In comparative benchmarks, Vista consistently underperformed XP in all categories: multi-tasking, gaming, etc.
6- MS lied: It is NOT invulnerable. They said it was the most secure OS they've ever released, yet just a couple of months ago the news broke that -double gasp- it was vulnerable to malware, some of which dated back to '04. Seems to me if it's so secure, it would not be affected by 3 YEAR OLD BUGS!!!
7- MS killswitch. Yeah. Look it up if you don't believe me.
8- No support (yet) for a plethora of drivers and programs already running uber-smoothly on XP.
9- TOO MANY WINDOWS APPS! We figured out a long time ago that MS doesn't do so well with applications, hence the popularity of third party programs and services including, but not limited to: Gmail, Various search toolbars, Firefox & Opera, PcCillin/Norton/McAfee, et. al. Also, Windows Defender's EULA states its purpose is to remove "spyware, adware, and other potentially unwanted software." Potentially unwanted software is undefined- perhaps they plan on torpedoing your third party apps. ****in' Nazis. (Source: http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/175801).
10- Citing, again, the above source, MS has stated the following: "this agreement only gives you some rights to use the software. Microsoft reserves all other rights." And, before we forget, "you may not work around any technical limitations in the software." How exactly is this thing supposed to help us run our computers again? If you know, tell me, cuz I'm lost.
11- Aero will actually win people over because they want the new prettiness, only to shaft them severely with numbers 1-10.

Now tell me I'm just a naysayer coming out of the woodwork. I will not support Vista for the Top Ten reasons listed above. Vista is set up to be the biggest MS goof-up since the abysmal Mistake Edition.
