Pros: It's still as easy to use as XP, but prettier; I personally like to use the sidebar
Cons: just a prettier XP? . . . need some drivers for my graphics card
Summary: It's funny, everytime a new Windows OS comes out, people have their gripes and moans . . . crybabies. Yeah it is a prettier version of XP, drains memory, has useless security features, and lacks appropriate drivers for some hardware, but for the most part it works the same. Give it a few months, and you'll have a more polished Vista to work with. The sidebar is a neat function. You can add different gadgets to it, and have it sit on the side of windows. Mine has a clock, notepad, picture slideshow, calender, and a meter that measures CPU usage and memory usage. Pretty neat. I have no complaints on memory drain because I have plenty to use. For some reason though, my ATI graphics card has issues reading drivers (updated too) with Vista. My games sometimes have choppy or pixelated texture maps. It's all kinds of games too, older simple ones, and newer games. I have to be honest, I didn't get Vista by choice. My new laptop was not available without it. That's no biggy though. Hopefully soon, I'll have some drivers to fix up these bugs.Updated
Vista is visually pretty, has a little bit more built in protection, but it's not enough to make a difference.
The real deal is that it is memory hog. I heard it a million times, and wanted to see for myself, but it's true. I have duo core processors and 2 gigs of ram, you'd think I'd get around ok on this sucker. Media player skips constantly, and I found out it wasn't just me. Also, it's anal about not letting me get drivers I need for programs . . . i.e. you can't find drivers/patches for other programs for Vista. You can try to download program drivers for XP, but obviously, it'll recognize it's a different system. I was so jealous that Dell started offering XP again with their systems right after I bought mine, which automatically came with Vista. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this OS is a step backwards. It's just like adolescence, just akward to deal with at first, but hopefully will grow up to be normal. HAH
