Pros: attractive, more "user friendly", more intelligent interface

    Cons: too little too late

Summary: Having been a windows user for most of my profesional life, i was really looking to Vista - a much needed upgrade to XP. To be perfectly honest, after all the time that went into making Vista what it is today, all the delays and all the fuss, my firm opinion is "is that it?".
At the end of the day, Vista is basically XP with a visual upgrade, a few more functionality tweaks in terms of being more user-friendly (or dare i say it - mac like), and not much else. What with most users having to seriously upgrade their pc to run it, it seems that the trade off is a little unfair.
If you are seriously bored with XP then upgrade by all means, just don't expect to be blown away.

Like other comments on Vista, I'm not impressed with it! It's always a hassel to put new software and hardware. For exemple, my brand new web cam wont work, but for some reason the mic in it works, or Windows live messenger is perceived as a threat by the firewall! I trully miss XP! Also, with multiple users, vista does not make a difference between user and my kids dont know where they should save their files, so if anyone knows how to do these things I would like to know!

People, Windows Vista, has finally arrived! This is what we've been waiting for. After so many years with XP finally Vista is available. BUT, what is new in Vista? Well, it has a nice chess game, it's about $300 or more! But they have a Home Version!! What for? It doesn't even come with "Aero" They have this Home Version just to say "Windows Vista, as low as $100"... But what do you get out of it? <br><br>I've been using STARDOCK on XP for some years, it tweaks almost all you want, but guess what happened when I upgraded to Vista? Nothing!! My PC looked even better and ran faster using XP with Stardock!<br><br>Well, this message goes to all of the ones who were expecting Vista so long as I did.<br><br>"Microsoft is dead" no more creativity! there's the plain proof! so, "Hasta la Vista, VISTA!"<br><br><br>Who needs Vista? When you can get LINUX! for FREE! Just look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lawkc3jH3ws<br><br>Windows will be doing what Linux does now, but in a couple of decades!

The graphics rendition of Vista is, by itself, worth the upgrade from XP. There is no comparison at all between the two OS' in this regard. Even at the Outlook mail level, text and graphics are noticeably crisper, cleaner and easier on the eyes.<br><br>If you would spend 200 bucks on a new video card, spend it instead on Vista and get roughly the same result.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO FLASH BACK IF THEY CAN REMEMBER BACK THAT FAR TO THE FIRST RELEASE OF MICROSOFT WINDOWS. IT IS ALMOST LIKE THE MAC OS AS A MATTER OF FACT MICROSOFT WAS SUED BY APPLE RIGHT AFTER THEY RELEASED WINDOWS 3.0 ABOUT 17 YEARS AGO. THEY WON THE ANTITRUST LAWSUIT BECAUSE OF SOME AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE TWO COMPANIES WASY BACK WHEN. I REMEMBER READING SOMETHING ABOUT BILL GATES(FROM MICROSOFT) AND STEVE JOBS(FROM APPLE) ABOUT THEM HAVING A JOINT VENTURE AND THEN THEY WENT THEIR SEPERATE WAYS, I DON'T REMEMBER THE WHOLE THING BUT EVERYONE IS RIGHT MICROSOFT WINDOWS WAS COPIED FROM APPLE MAC OS THERE ARE JUST WAY TOO MANY SIMILARITIES IN THE TWO OPERATING SYSTEMS. MICROSOFT IS GETTING AWAY WITH BECOMING A MONOPOLY. THEY HAVE THE MARKET SHARE IN THE PC MARKET WITH THE OS, MEDIA PLAYER, INTERNET EXPLORER, OFFICE PRODUCTS AND NOW THEY ARE INTO VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS(XBOX,XBOX 360) THEY EVEN BOUGHT OUT A FEW VIDEGAME MANUFACTURERS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. <br><br>WHO IS SURPRISED I AM NOT.

I'm not here to bash MS, my opinion is such that MS had to come up with something after a year of delay and this is as good as they could come up with. Not everyone is going to be happy with it as there are less holes to plug but there are still holes non the less. Either way, assuming there were NO holes, no flaws, then my question is why is MS trying to sell Livecare protection for Vista ? This would not be necessary if Vista was without problems so let's keep things real. If this OS was so secure, why the push for livecare which in itself is lacking according to all the reviews I've read. I honestly believe if one really wants security, buy a Mac or buy Xandros Professional 4.01 as it comes with it's own antivirus, adware, fileprotection, firewall, open office, it runs Microsoft Software without any problems that I'm aware of and the license allows you to load it on as many personal home computers that you might own. Hey, you don't have to upgrade any computers or hardware to load it. If they can provide this and sell it for $ 100, then why can't MS ?

it does look nicer. and probably performs better with pictures etc. which is sluggish IME compared to OSX.<br><br>i would want it on a new machine, but i don't feel compelled to upgrade; my Qosmio performs good enough. <br><br>maybe when i actually see it in the stores i will feel different?

If you came to the incredible conclusion that "Vista is basically XP with a visual upgrade" (which, just by itself, reveals how little you know about Vista), could you then please tell me how can I activate PatchGuard and User Account Control in Windows XP and how can I run Internet Explorer 7 in Protected Mode in Windows XP too? Thank you.
