"5 yrs later, still no need to upgrade"
3.0 starson by bigpetisPros: Flashy Aero graphics (if you have the RAM to spare), DirectX 10, cool black toolbar, more security (sarcastic YAY)
Cons: Gadgets? why not call them "Rip off of Apple programs" Oh look a search bar in the Start Menu, oh wait Apple beat them to that too,
Summary: I think it is ironic that Bill Gates along with many more computer engineers spend 5 years on this OS and not even CNET tells you that you need to upgrade. I mean, what has Microsoft been doing for all that time. If I had 5 years to make a product and on top of that a year to see what your competition has done, I would make one spectacular product! Also they have already started work on their first service pack for Vista. Wait a tick, your telling me that you haven't even released the product to the public and you already need to make a service pack for it. Sounds like they are rushing out the OS a little to soon.

So my 24 yr old daugter moved out, and bought a new computer, compaq with vista home basic. Got it at circuit city. I hooked it up, no operating system installed!!! So take it back and 4 hrs. later we have vista. So the hp printer that comes with it doesn't work!!! You have to download a 96 mg driver. Hey, I'm only the family computer geek,BUT!!! this system is not ready for primetime. Also no restore disk!!! VERY BAD JOB, BILLY G. and COMPAQ! I'm sorry my kid bought this system.

I'm also posting this as a general comment
==========================================

I won't get into the pros and cons of this new operating system in terms of the usual critique, because it's all been covered here. What I want all of you to be aware about are the technologies that Microsoft has implemented in order to control what you can or can not view or listen to. If you are not familiar with DRM, then please read about it. Microsoft has also implemented AACS within Vista, and this is also something you really need to inform yourselves about. I suggest you start on this website:

http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm#76

Listen to episodes 73, 74 and 75. You might be shocked at what you will hear. If you're not that tech-savvy you'll probably have to listen to these shows a couple of times.
