Pros: Very stable, first home-oriented operating system built on Windows NT/2000 technology. If you have the opprotunity, be sure to also check out Windows 2000!
Cons: Not as flexible as XP Pro/Windows 2000 in some areas.

"Windows XP is just simply MS's best OS ever."
Pros: It faster, more reliable, user friendly, easier to set up, more stable, more compatible, and just plain better for the average PC user than every comparable OS out there right now. I seriously can't wait for Longhorn. AND at least MS isn't charging us $12
Cons: can be a bit slow on < 450 MHz computers. Be sure to have at least 256MB of RAM.

Cons: Still need to bring up the command prompt occasionally to do anything serious. If memory is not cheap to you, expect delays.
