"Awful in mixed mac/PC environment" on by JackOatmon
Pros: It works fine with the Macs and has an okay, but not great wifi range.
Cons: It has a weak, fickle, unpredictable connection with both PC machines in the house. One has XP and one has Vista, we have tried wifi, direct ethernet, installed and configured the Airport Base Station Agent software, and it's still a total mess.
Summary: Bottom line: Windows users and mixed operating system households, don't waste your money. We're computer geeks here and if we can't make it work, the average Joe probably can't either.

I agree completely with Laurent.
I am using anAirport Extreme. HAve a WinXP desktop wired to the Airport, a Mac PowerBook and a WinXP notebook using the wireless. A HP networked (wired) printer/scanner is connected to the Airport. Occasionally, my daughter stops by and her WinXP notebook connects as soon as the wireless is detected.
All computers share the cable modem, the printer, and shared folders on the WinXP desktop machine.
Lastly, the network/router is completed stealth to the public (excepting the ping response, that I've been unalbe to silence). Wireless security is enabled and effective.
All seems fine to me. -
I use Apple Airport Extreme Base Station in a mixed environment mac/pc and I have no problems. However, in such a case it is always better to install the software that comes with airport extreme on a mac firstly and then from there to start configuring your network.
