"Great idea but not so great product"
2.0 starson by mikebridgePros: This is a good idea---a device that allows you to hook a non-wireless machine up to a wireless network, or hook a wireless machine into a wired network.
Cons: The interface to configure this is very poor. The documentation is incomplete and unclear.
Summary: I am using this to connect a wired machine to a wireless network. After reading all the documentation carefully, I still could not get it to work for several hours despite being very advanced in networking experience. What little there is is poorly written by someone whose native language is obviously not English, and it is incomplete. Specifically, it doesn't tell you how you're supposed to configure your computer once you've connected the DLink to the network. (First, it assigns you an address via DHCP, so I thought it was going to use NAT---it actually switches back to being a dumb-relay after it's set up correctly.) To make it really confusing, the DLink appears to go offline when it is configured correctly---I kept resetting it thinking it was frozen, when in fact it was working as it is supposed to. And when you don't have it configured correctly, it gives you no error message. I had one parameter wrong on my wireless connection for a long time, but it didn't give me any error or any "connection status", so I didn't realize it wasn't connected.
To make things worse, this thing seems to reset itself periodically, so I have to spend 15 minutes configuring it each time.
This *could* be a really great product, if the interface was easier to use and the documentation didn't leave you hanging.
