"Great HD experience over wireless" on by steveandcook
Pros: So easy to setup, good performance so far no issues
Cons: Bit too high price
Summary: My Apple TV, TIVO HD and PS3 are all connected to the network via this HD networking kit. I have a 2-wire box from ATNT at home, coverage is decent for email and browsing, but not for games or video. I connect one unit to the 2-wire box, and connect Apple TV directly at 5 GHz 802.11n. Used the other unit in the family room to connect TiVo-HD and PS3 to my home network.
So far, the experience has been great. Apple TV can now access all the content in my Desktop computer, online Gaming is spot-on and I have noticed almost no lag and I watch a lot of Movies online via my networked TIVO.
So far great experience. It is bit too pricy, but I would recommend it to anyone. Don't depend on your G or even 2.4 GHz 802.11n. -
"Great system but has its flaws" on by bmw0perat0r
Pros: Speed, Ease of Setup, Good web based interface.
Cons: Range, range, range...
Summary: This is an excellent product. With both boxes set to Auto I plugged one into the cable modem and turned it on. Plugged the other into a PS3 and turned it on. Hit the button on the front on the access point then the bridge and several minutes later they were connected. The speed is quite good. The only problem - the range is poor inside a household due to the 5ghz channel. It has difficulty penetrating layers of walls and appliances unlike the 2.4ghz channel. I had the AP on the 3rd floor and a PS3 on the main floor. Signal strength was 30% give or take and the PS3 registered 11.9mbps down and 3.8mbps up. Thats very good at 30% signal strength. The downside begins there, at 30% signal strength the connection doesn't always last very long. As soon as you begin playing something online the connection seems to become intermittent. This is a great system if you don't need to have a signal travel as far as I do. I would recommend this product to those with less than 40' between points they wish to connect.
When the signal is strong the connection is fast, very fast. When the signal is weak the connection is still fast but very unstable. You may see it drop several times an hour and for several minutes at a time while the AP and Bridge attempt to reconnect.
Netgear made a pretty good product here, but the range limitation of the 5ghz channel is disappointing. I am taking a note from CNET and just bought the Belkin N+ router and Linksys Bridge, operating at 2.4ghz N I hope to see better signal strength and more stability.
