  • "Isn't it much cheaper to use a phone with wifi?"

    Pros: Is what it is.

    Cons: And that is all.

Summary: I really don't get it. How could this ever be considered a useful alternative to simply paying the lesser extra charge required to make one's phone a wifi hotspot? Even if one doesn't own such a phone, buying one would still cost less over the long run, and be way more convenient.

I guess if one cannot plug in the cell phone while using it as a hotspot, this becomes an elaborate second battery, that at least helps by keeping the cell phone free for phone use.
But I think you will be paying for a smart phone data plan as well; they are usually required. Want to just get a feature phone, carry around it, the hotspot, and a tablet/PC?

These type of devices don't use up one's mobile phone batteries when connecting other devices to the Internet.
