We were also bummed that MyConnect has no built-in security for stateside MyConnect hot-spot locations. U.S. hot-spot providers for MyConnect don't support WPA or 802.1x encryption, and MyConnect doesn't offer a VPN (à la Boingo), which means your surfing will be unprotected unless you have your own VPN handy.
MyConnect also falls well short in terms of its wireless access footprint: about 6,000 hot spots in the United States and none internationally--well short of the service available from Boingo and T-Mobile, both of which have more than 11,000 foreign hot spots each. (The Enterprise version of MyConnect offers 16,000 access points worldwide, but it's available only for large companies.)
MyConnect's rates are among the more reasonable we've seen: $30 a month for all-you-can-eat access (without a contract), $19 for 30 hours a month, $110 for three months unlimited, or $4 an hour. While MyConnect's monthly rates are about $10 more than Boingo's, the service doesn't require an annual contract, as T-Mobile does.
We can't complain about MyConnect's 24/7 toll-free phone support, which is equal to T-Mobile's and considerably better than Boingo's limited-hour support.
