Summary: I'm average Joe home user, I don't need collaboration tools because I don't collaborate with anyone. I only need a word processor for college papers, and the occassional document for my job. So, Microsoft Word is in all honesty a great product expressly if you REALLY need the collaboration tools, but otherwise..Why pay a couple hundred dollars for a Word Processor when Open Office is free and as far as the average user is concerned, 100% compatible and no less user friendly? Microsoft needs to get their pricing model in line with reality. Businesses that shelled out way too much money for licensing the office suite in the end of the roaring 90's are waking up to Open Office and Star Office and other compatible office suites and the cost is no longer justifiable. For the home user, unless you bought a computer with OEM office installed, you might want to look at alternatives. I was disgusted at the cost when I went to buy this, so I got Open Office (for free, mind you!) and so far I haven't found any differences at all actually, let alone any differences that would compel me to go pay for MS Word or any other part of the MS suite at this point.
