If your GSM phone supports the 900 and 1800 bands, you can use it in many countries outside of the United States. Yet you may find that when you turn your phone on for the first time abroad, no coverage is available. Don't panic if this happens, as it may be that your phone is defaulting to the GSM 850 and 1900 bands, which are only used in the United States. To fix the problem, simply go into your phone's Settings menu and manually scan for available networks. Once you find a frequency that works, simply select it and you should be good to go.
