Apple statement on PowerBook G3 series heat

CNET staff
Regarding our previous report of readers complaining about how hot their G3 series PowerBooks get, a new Apple Tech Info Library File, PowerBook G3 Series: Operating Temperature, claims: "There is no problem with the PowerBook. After extended periods of use the bottom surface can become very warm. You should avoid prolonged physical contact with the bottom of the computer when it does get warm."

Apple also offers some suggestions to reduce the heat level, especially "turning processor cycling on in the Energy Saver Control Panel ." [Did they move the location of these features for these new PowerBooks? I thought they were in the PowerBook control panel. Update: Users report that Energy Saver is indeed the new home for these options, and will be the location used in Mac OS 8.5.]
